Looks and Gaming: Who and Why?
We investigate the relationship between physical attractiveness and the time people devote to video/computer gaming. Average American teenagers spend 2.6% of their waking hours gaming, while for adults this figure is 2.7%. Using the American Add Health Study, we show that adults who are better-looking have more close friends.
Arguably, gaming is costlier for them, and they thus engage in less of it. Physically attractive teens are less likely to engage in gaming at all, whereas unattractive teens who do game spend more time each week on it than other gamers.
Attractive adults are also less likely than others to spend any time gaming; and if they do, they spend less time on it than less attractive adults. Using the longitudinal nature of the Add Health Study, we find supportive evidence that these relationships are causal for adults: good looks decrease gaming time, not vice-versa.

Can't speak to "attractive", but...
Early on gaming was comprised of mostly intelligent people (at least PC gaming was) as one had to be able to work on their machine, deal with numerous OS/software issues that required good knowledge in computers, software, networking, etc...
My experience in early multiplayer gaming was mostly professionals (engineers, techs, etc...). There were the ******* who would head to the computer store and pay enormous amounts of money to have someone build the a machine, configure it for them, setup their games, etc... , but for the most part the people who played were at least knowledgeable and skilled to an extent which tended to reflect their behavior.
UO, EQ early wasn't too bad *MUDs were a bit different as you had kids from college which were hit and miss on social mannerisms), but over time... you got less skilled, average people, and kiddies "my mommy bought me a pewter for Christmas!" and of course... with WoW you got the console tards, soccor moms, etc... (ie mainstream).
Now it seems gaming is for ******** people who lack intelligence, have extremely poor social mannerisms and behavior and lack complete self control.
Which I think would explain why a lot of gamers are fat turds who let themselves go these days.
Not sure if that is a "gaming" thing though, as I think most people these days are fat ugly lards who don't take care of themselves, not to mention the women who think looking ugly is a statement.
