Gothic was made by Polish and written in English. It's why it has such a large Polish fanbase.

Original game was in English, I hope that helps.
For real? Pretty sure it was written in German
Rusty is just messing with us. I know that the game first came out in german only in 2001 and then 2006 there was a demo with english dub included in Gothic 3.
Here's Brave's AI using multiple sources to back it up.

That makes sense. I mean they started when? 96/97? Even back then it was supposed to be THE German game to finally compete with all the top international/US competition.

If they get the og voice actors from the german version back (those that live that is) and make the combat the same but a bit more modern along with keeping the rough tone of the original it might just be good.
There is no way they are even trying to copy that combat. Absolutely no way, it will be closer to Twitcher than Gothic
I mean that's fine too. Everything but that ****** For Honor Combat System they had in the teaser.

Yeah...I would be shocked if anything from that demo survived. I mean I am not hyped about it whatsoever, simply given the history of remasters/remakes etc. but if I compare that with the Witcher 1 remake, this one here I might actually play

Translation:

The origins of Gothic can be traced back to a leisure project by three computer science students. Impressed by the 3D graphics of Ultima Underworld, Dieter Hildebrandt, Ulf Wohlers, and Bert Speckels wanted to develop their own 3D role-playing game with a first-person perspective and a dark atmosphere. They called themselves the Mad Scientists and initially developed a 3D engine, but eventually reached the limits of game design. To gain support, they presented their project Finster to various established development studios, including Sunflowers and Attic Entertainment. In August 1996, they agreed on a cooperation contract with Greenwood Entertainment, which at the time belonged to the Funsoft group. After about a year, Funsoft ran into financial difficulties and Greenwood largely dissolved as a result. Consequently, four employees decided to establish a new studio, which they called Piranha Bytes, with which they wanted to further advance the project. The Mad Scientists continued to be part of the development team as programmers but remained independent.

I might also add that that ****** BjΓΆrn Pankratz keeps making himself the man who IS gothic wasn't even involved with Gothic, really.

He still needs to find funding, no way he got enough money to kickstart his own game. If he somehow gets it, it will be worse than Elex2. That dude is a fraud, simple as that.

German Government is gonna fund his first game most likely. They give independent devs money to make the games.

Going to be the gayest game that exists from what I've seen of government grants for games.

Did they play all combat at x 0.5 game speed?
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

Did they try and set expectations low with the demo? This looks much better. Looks being the operative word. We'll see how it plays. I never actually played the demo, just saw gameplay and decided to ignore it. Is the combat like Elex or is it the classic Gothic style of directional attacks + combos?

Not yet. Everything looks like the original (i'm sure the women are getting toned down and more "strong" "independent" types of women, instead of the strippers and whores that were in the original)

I have completed Gothic 1 for the first time this year, it was a lot of fun. I could go on and brag about things you already know and possibly agree- but what I wish to highlight the most is the impressive technical feat they have achieved while creating the game, and that is making it fully playable keyboard only.

It blew my mind, and I do not think that the new Gothic will impress me in the same way. Gothic 2 NOTR barely kept me hooked with the sheer quantity of new additions, I'm not quite sure if the next project bearing this title should go on with the same attitude of content-bloat.

Also, I do not want a fully-narrated protagonist that comments some snarky half-assed line every time I pick up loot, or kill a scavenger.

Check out Archolos if you haven't, it's a fan game made in the Gothic 2 engine that's great

I have heard of Archolos, the heavy amount of scripting is making me hesitant to pick it up on one hand. On the other I still have to struggle with Gothic 2 NOTR, the absurd quest dumps you get in the first 10 hours is insane... It's possible that I am also burned out after Gothic 1.

On another note, am I the only one to think that the Swamp Sect was heavily inspired by Dune?

Psychedelic sect, waiting for a divine figure to (re)appear in the mortal realm, leading them to the great Awakening (Jihad), in a harsh climate dealing with gigantic worms?
