just do cool ****, mythology doesn't need to make sense or be consistent
It does or there's literally no point to even having it.
nope, writers overexplain because the outspoken fans demand it due to making their entire life revolve around a video game story
less is more, no game was ever made better by a writer explaining everything
You girls just got buttblasted when your own 10000 word fanfics didn't get his attention.
My fanfic is contained entirely in my mind and the in character journals I write in game unironically using this mod and it's way worse than anything bethesda has ever written https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecial ... mods/13570

Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

I don't want them to overexplain but I also don't want to read a story and then have the details deliberately obscured and murked up by some butthurt writer with a chip on his shoulder on a forum discussion.

Imagine legacy of kain (which the similarities to were completely accidental) but worse and there was a time travel/multiverse element using shadow magic.

The journey through Valenwood was pleasant. The weather held fair for the most part, with sunny days and cool nights. Bright leaves of scarlet, crimson, gold and green drifted down to form a carpet beneath their horses' feet. Valenwood was very different from the somber, steep forests of High Rock. When they reached the northern border[that is, the border with Cyrodiil], Edward, looking back, saw that the trees were mostly bare, shorn of their glory. Before them lay a wide green land of rolling hills with only a few stands of trees. It seemed to spread on forever.
The late winter weather held fair but cold for their journey, so that they travelled quickly over firm roads. On the last day, spring seemed to come at last for there was a thaw, and the road grew sloppy underfoot, and everywhere one could faintly hear the sound of water trickling and dripping. They came to the great bridge that crossed into Imperial City at sunset.
Oh no, you are fake news. The northern border doesn't touch nibenay, but the plains in colovia, which the pge imply is a milder climate, because the colovians don't take to nibenay's heat. When something that was just a trashy romance novel is developed into an actual setting, like Cyrodiil was, that isn't a retcon. A retcon is "you know what? We have this great plot Caius Cosades alludes to, brewing in Cyrodiil City, that would tie a bunch of loose ends and make for a cool story, while bypassing our engine's limitations for rendering battles, but let's just retcon all that, so we can make rockem sockem devil vs dragon in rural maryland."

I'm not reading this + none of those areas actually exist

Rusty is boring. He wants the religion of the elves, who were deliberately planned to be alien and anti-human, to make sense, and he wants the geography and people to be maryland. He just hates fun.

Internal politics. Some concern about my sugar. I thought about refusing the recall. But they have members of my family back in the capital. I'm afraid it may have something to do with the problems with the succession. As the Emperor's health declines, factions are maneuvering for advantage. I may be gone a while -- that's why you're promoted to Operative.
You're no fool. The days of the Empire are almost over. When the Emperor dies, nine hells're going to break loose. Forget about the Imperial City. Think locally. Worry about the Sixth House and Dagoth Ur. And squabbles between the Great Houses and the colonists. The rest of the political nonsense doesn't amount to a plate of scuttle.
Rusty: That's BORING! Where's my horse armor and Sean Bean?! muh ten-man battle? I want my treeeeeees!

places like reddit have always been bleh, but ESO has made discussing any lore-related topic completely unviable the majority of the time. Half the sub-humans there just muck any topic up with references to ESO slop (on topics 90% of the time completely unrelated to it), and since reddit has a monopoly on "forum" space, it's often the only medium for discussing these things.
Yea I miss when teslore discussions were people posting their straight up fanfiction and nannying each other over making sure to give Vivec gender neutral pronouns
Be a real shame if anyone got Michael Dorkbride's weird fetishes slightly wrong!

yeah.
Nooooo! You can't just close the bloody circle on the Empire of Tamriel! That's a subversive retconarino!
Fortunately for you, the good guys won, and bgs post-kirkbride are doing great things.
If Bethesda doesn't care about lore, why should you?. It's like the decades Zelda fans spent conjuring up asinine theories on those games, only to finally realize that there is no continuity and Nintendo never cared. They couldn't even keep basic plot details consistent in Breath of the Wild's 'direct' sequel, let alone everything else.
It's the same with Elder Scrolls. Lore can change drastically between games and there's no point getting invested in any of it.

I wouldn't really consider ESO an elder scrolls game, it shits and pisses all over the lore. I want all of the devs to explode, every time I try to look up a bit of lore I remember from playing oblivion or daggerfall as a kid every wiki source and lore post/video has been overwritten and drowned out by the kungfu panda mists of pandaria level dlc microtransaction slop lore from ESO. It's a tumor you should scoop out of your mind

honestly I like lore and I'm tired of pretending its not okay because of a few ****

I do as well but I'm not gonna act like some *** coming in with ESO lore was the only thing making it an annoying nightmare to read about.

Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?
Its better to have a setting without much lore, but a lot of breadth, for readers or players to fill in the gaps themselves. Oblivion leaned hard on lore to support it, because the current world it took place in was boring. Morrowind still had a lot of dynastic and factional conflict. The time and place it took place in was interesting.
Now you're just baiting. One of the biggest criticisms of Oblivion is that for taking place in the heart of the Empire it hardly touched upon the lore of it's people, religion, and culture whereas Morrowind wove all of those things into it's main quest and factions.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?
What I said is undeniable. Oblivion is lore-heavy, because the world it takes place in isn't grounded in an interesting present, but in lore and stories about it's past. Morrowind has a lot of lore, but the world that lore belongs to is realized in the present you play in. Even the books involve real characters you meet in the game. The "lore" of Morrowind is more like the fluff that pads out the factions and history of the land.
