There is no 'Piranha Bytes'. There were developers that were crucial to making the good games that likely left.
People come and go in every business, yet some companies can improve their products over time. Hardware is the best example. Software is a hit and miss, especially games, but some categories of software like browsers and OSS operating systems have improved over last decades.

Genesis Shadowrun is great. That's a good one for what the thread title asks. Wish I'd thought of it.

Does Genesis Shadowrun classify as open world? It's p open.
What's that?
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.
Reject your retarded-wing political programming and learn to think.

Is Elex 2 that bad? I heard it wasn't near as good as the original but I didn't know it was horrible either
Yes, it's pretty awful. All around worse than Elex in every way except for the improved jetpack.
This is especially true if you play melee. With range, it is not that extreme for the first third or half of the game.

I found one recently released called Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. Anyone knows if it is worth getting? Is it woke or Ubisoft type open world? Because that would be deal breakers

first 15 minutes of the game, they're discussing poly relationships and open marriages
the game takes place in the 17th century american colonies btw

was completely willing to give this a fair shake but I just can't do it, felt so ridiculous I exited the game

It'll be good to see Charles and Esther again.

Thanks not buying it then. But a question: How the gameplay and open world is like? Curious since this is their first game of this kind

Didn't play it long enough to find out. They also made Vampyr, FYI. I quit playing it a few hours in because early 20th century london was full of brown & gay people which took me out of the setting.

I don't remember gays but I do remember finding the game story and gameplay utterly boring. I remember I stopped playing when I used my vampire persuasion, which I had leveled up, to convince a character to stop blackmailing another and that for some reason resulted in the caracther becoming a ghoul and the district becoming more infected. That was utterly nonsensical and so I just stopped playing. I had no idea they were the same studio. How the **** are this ******* still on business?

Same for me. I don't remember Vampyr being offensive with historical revisionism, I just remembered it being completely boring and unremarkable with ****** unfun combat.

If you are open to fully text-based games, Fabled Lands (java fan version) is possibly one of the best open-worlds you will find out there. Avoid the steam ver of the game, tho: The artstyle is pure trash and I rather read than deal with those clunky animations.

Make sure to pick up the illustrations from the 1.0. They got deleted from the more recent versions because of copyright issues, but you can just drop 'em in the game folder and they work.

Dread Delusion had some nonsense, there was one ****** story line (half-optional) and one gay (mandatory). But they felt like isolated checkboxes, you can ignore them and move on. But of course, I have a higher tolerance towards woke bs than most around here.

Don't know what you like specifically. Also what do you mean by open world? Open right away, full map to travel with minimal loading screens or open world as in go where you want when you want if/when unlocked?

Euro Jank (if that's your thing):
A.I.M.: Artificial Intelligence Machines
Arcatera: The Dark Brotherhood
Sea Dogs Series
Space Rangers HD
Two Worlds

Indie:
Balrum
Brigand: Oaxaca
Eschalon
Kenshi

Old:
Darklands
Adding to this for 2 games I played recently:

Wigmund - meh, you have many more to play before you have to resort to such banality. short, decent atmosphere, good if you want a game where you don't have to think too much. Play Gothic instead. You've played Gothic, right?

Svarog's Dream - good world design, interesting permadeath mechanic, can go seek out end game fights at the beginning if you want (that kind of open world). Diablo-esque combat in a more traditional crpg game.

And some more obscure **** to check out off the top of my head (of varying quality):

Anito: Defend the Land Enraged (developed by pinoys)
Dead State
The I of the Dragon (rus jank)
Neo Scavenger (doesn't count as obscure but **** it)
Nox Archaist

Tried wigmund, it was perhaps the most forgettable below average rpg I've played. Can't recommend.

Eh, like I said, if you have nothing to play and wanna turn off your brain for a bit, it's fine. Otherwise, very skippable.

Late game boss fights and dungeons are a little tricky though, actually had to wake up for that part.
