Alkahest: Remember That Dark Messiah Game?

Post by rusty_shackleford »

Developer Push On proudly reveals Alkahest - an action-adventure RPG set in a murky medieval world where satisfying melee combat with highly interactive environments takes center stage. Players will immerse themselves in fantasy roleplaying as they explore stunningly detailed locations, learn the mystic arts of alchemy, and define their family legacy with each new adventure.

Key inspiration: Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Dishonored, Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
Genre: 1st person Action-Adventure RPG with Immersive Sim elements
Game Engine: Unity
Developer: Push On (team size is 40+ people)
Release window: TBA
Price: TBA
Platforms: PC (Steam), consoles TBA
Key Features
• Creative melee combat with extensive use of physics and highly interactive environments. Kick enemies off a cliff, drop a tree on their head,s and much more;

• Alchemy instead of magic. Follow a recipe or mix gathered ingredients at your own discretion. Use the substance as a throwable, a weapon oil, plant it into an NPC's pocket or even drink it yourself. In each scenario, outcomes can be unpredictable;

• First-person adventure, balanced between scripted gameplay sections and free exploration of semi-open locations;

• Grounded setting focused on realism and believability, muddy Middle Ages with a fantasy spin;

• Story involving personal drama, politics, interesting factions and characters;

• Immersive sim elements: aggressive stealth, non-linearity in addressing gameplay tasks, multiple gadgets and unobvious combinations of mechanics.

I'm not convinced this is a real game, honestly. The footage looks pre-rendered. It's like one of those fake mobile game ads.

Then they are purposely misleading people by not specifying it as a "cinematic" trailer, or a proof-of-concept. The footage is clearly pre-rendered, in-game animations do not look like that.

If its clearly pre-rendered how is it misleading anyone? It's a reveal trailer, the game is nowhere near finished

It's leading people to assume that this is at least close to genuine gameplay footage, when it isn't. They'd be getting excited for nothing, and will probably make a few dozen reaction videos complaining about how the game (if it ever releases at all) was "downgraded" or defied expectations.

Removed the trailer from the OP, yes non-gameplay trailers are misleading. I actually didn't watch the trailer yet, just looked at the screenshots. However, the trailer itself is possibly a mix of in-game material and trailer-specific animations — along with post-processing(as in, video editing) done.

Looks very good. Some of the animations do look far too clean, but some segments like the one with the bow look genuine enough. There have been games that have achieved a very cinematic feel in their gameplay before eg. Killzone 2. Hopefully they can replicate the trailer in the final product.

Devs based in cyprus :/
Well, that deflates my expectations a bit. Likely to follow Atomic Heart - decent, but nothing groundbreaking.

I don't care for non-gameplay trailers but devs also have to make money or at least create interest in the game or else it will just never get developed, especially for larger projects with sizeable teams. I really don't see how putting a label that says "in-engine footage" for all the sub 90s who can't tell in the first place matters either.

It's not real, it's yet another pre-rendered cinematic. At this point I'm about 85-90% sure this "game" does not exist, it's probably a scam to fool investors.

Stalker 2's trailer also looks like it prior to release, hell, even less believable. This game might turn out to be **** just like Stalker 2 did but I won't go as far by claiming it's fake.

Stalker 2 trailers all looked like crap. It was pretty obvious, that that game was in trouble.
