Apparently the low resolution, pre-rendered cutscenes of Metal Gear Rising take up a full 21GB. Without them, the game only takes up 3.3GB.
Nothing unusual. This is why certain modern games are so bloated. Focus on graphics, be it either with pre-rendered cutscenes or textures. Especially stupid when there is hardly any difference over 1080p/2K but they want to use 4K textures. Or even freaking 8K.

As comparion, going over the BG3 PAKs. The following numbers are all in GB. Textures take up 89.2. 12 for normal textures, 77.2 for Virtual textures. Models and Gustav take up 20.8 combined, but they also have elements for Visuals. So it only leaves around 33 from the total of 143. 10 being for SharedSounds, don't know if compressed or not. Leaning towards the former since there is a mod for higher audio quality. Make it 23 for all the other elements.

Kind of ridiculous since games are gameplay first and foremost. Even for story, writing takes priority. And good retro titles do not require good graphics to grip someone and have them be invested.
I hear other games, like Final Fantasy XIII, suffer from this sort of needless bloat. A full 50GB is dedicated to the cutscenes and audio alone. Now for a story-based game like FF, this isn't a big surprise, but one wonders how much of that space could be saved if the cutscenes were all in real-time, or if the story had simply been told better and relied less on cinematics.

Wait, FFXIII from the PS3 era ? ****.
From research, thing is, this only applies to the PC release. And it sounds like it includes the whole trilogy. Still lots. The console release saw their size only at 20 GB. I assume it includes the trilogy there like the PC version. Does have different issues instead than data size.
Found this information from this list. The size of both FFXV and XVI is also pretty darn high. They are Open World games but that leads to another angle with the issue of data size, when a more linear and focused approach can often be better.

One way to reduce the need for cinematics is to put the storytelling on the back of world building as Dark Souls does. Or just lower the graphics but companies want to sell their stuff, incl. hardware.

Can someone explain this and what it is failing to tell me to do to accomplish the desired result described?
This post seems to explain what they are but unfortunately not how to access them:

If a game developer offers a game for free and asks for optional payments, they'll make far less money than simply offering the game for sale with no DRM.

Not sure if always true. This one quite successfully pulled a f2p - supporter pack strategy.

I want to play a game where you defend the Roman Empire from being subverted by heretical cultist Hebrew Jew gobbledegook nonsense.

I can't imagine what Europe would be like if Rome got tired of the **** 2000 years ago and removed the problem for all time by eradicating the source of the problem.

The Romans had also continued to maintain a large military presence across the province; pushed unpopular changes in administrative and economic life; constructed the colony of Aelia Capitolina over the destroyed city of Jerusalem; and erected a place of worship for Jupiter on Jerusalem's Temple Mount, where the ****' Second Temple had stood.
The killing of Bar Kokhba and the subsequent defeat of his rebels yielded disastrous consequences for Judea's Jewish populace, even more so than the crackdown that had taken place during and after the First Jewish–Roman War. Based on archeological evidence, ancient sources, and contemporary analysis, between 500,000–600,000 **** are estimated to have been killed in the conflict. Judea was heavily depopulated as a result of the number of **** killed or expelled by Roman troops, with a significant number of captives sold into slavery.
Based, but no follow through...

You got what you wanted, it just didn't work out. Sucks to be you.

Julian the Apostate

Julian was the last non-Christian ruler of the Roman Empire, and he believed that it was necessary to restore the Empire's ancient Roman values and traditions in order to save it from dissolution. He purged the top-heavy state bureaucracy, and attempted to revive traditional Roman religious practices at the expense of Christianity. His efforts to build a Third Temple in Jerusalem were probably intended to harm Christianity rather than please ****. Julian also forbade Christians from teaching and learning classical texts.

Direct patron of the post-Temple ****. Killed in the middle of Persia (folklore says by his own troops, who were upset at his hatred of Christianity), successor forced to cede previously-conquered lands, penultimate ruler of the fully-Roman Empire (the split occurred under Jovian). God stays winning :smug:
