Also **** that game.
We have a Steam curator now. You should be following it. https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44994899-RPGHQ/
What game are you playing?
I'm a meat and potatoes kind of guy.
I played trough the release version of the game like 4 times, there is zero "***** stuff".
Even that portrait in the first level everyone were talking about was changed, it now looks completely normal.

I never noticed any pozz when I played it, and I enjoyed what I've played very much overall. I'm not sure what the problem with it would be beyond people who don't like survival/crafting/whatever-the-genre's-called games being curmudgeons or something, which can't be the case here if he's playing Minecraft. Maybe the art style? Thinks it's overrated (but again, Minecraft)?Greyborne wrote: ↑ June 30th, 2024, 20:13Did I miss something? Is it pozzed?

I've never been into Viking aesthetic or culture (one of the pettier reasons I'm not keen on Skyrim), but the folklore itself is fascinating, as it is with most ancient cultures. I enjoy the game on those merits, plus you can just build whatever, lol.

Same here; that's my ultimate aesthetic, next to feudal Japanese. If there was a survival/crafting/whatever-the-hell based on those aesthetics, I'd never be heard from again.Vergil wrote: ↑ June 30th, 2024, 22:09To the shock of absolutely no one I'm more of a Greco-Roman kind of guy.Envergence wrote: ↑ June 30th, 2024, 21:51I've never been into Viking aesthetic or culture (one of the pettier reasons I'm not keen on Skyrim), but the folklore itself is fascinating, as it is with most ancient cultures. I finally get to play Fear&Hunger. It's ok.
Wish there was no say gex even as an option, but the game was made by some finnish guy, what else could you expect?
I wouldn't reccomend it. Watching lore/features highlights on youtube was more fun than the actual gameplay.

Finished RE Village. Usually not a fan of horror games, but there isn't too much running and hiding, so that's nice. And obviously it looks amazing. Enjoyed it.

I've been trying Grim Dawn. Definitely one of the better "Diablo-likes" I've played, however it feels rather grindy and the amount of loot becomes overwhelming fairly quickly. Compared to the previous Diablo-like I've played, Torchlight II, it is significantly more bloated which can be a good or bad thing depending on your interest in the genre. Space isn't so much of an issue as you are given inventory expansions as you progress, but I find myself comparing loot constantly and it gets fatiguing after a while. Much moreso than Torchlight. The visual aesthetic is also your standard dark fantasy fare, which can make areas feel samey and dull. I found myself getting lost at times due to the sheer clutter that is present in some areas.
I can see why people like the game, it seems well made, but I enjoyed Torchlight II more overall.

The loot design in that game is a mess. It was clearly not designed around singleplayer despite not having any form of always online servers. IIRC, each class combo has its own unique loot, so when a good piece of loot drops you have a 1/56(or less? Can't remember if they added more classes) chance of it being for your build, and the rest being useless. What a mess.KnightoftheWind wrote: ↑ July 3rd, 2024, 13:15I've been trying Grim Dawn. Finished Deus Ex Mankind Divided. Much better level design than Human Revolution. Unfortunately it's a bit sloppy with scripting (shopkeepers will repeat their meeting-for-the-first-time dialogue) and the writing is incredibly libtarded. The mechanical apartheid and prejudice towards the augmented is so ridiculous that I was laughing out loud throughout. There was definitely a way to write the reactions of people justifiably afraid of a group of people who suddenly chimped out and started slaughtering those around them for no reason, but this isn't it. This is how libs think bigots act, pure paranoid fantasy. There was also a ridiculous number of female cops which was also silly. Good thing the gameplay is strong enough to more than make up for the dumb writing as far as I'm concerned.
Since this story will likely never have a conclusion, and it goes without saying that Jensen won't be able to stop the Illuminati, my head canon is that Adam did in fact retire with his AI waifu.

I'll evaulate Jensen's Stories in a separate post later.

The Elden Ring DLC gave me AAA burnout, so I've just been enjoying a bunch of smaller games I bought on the steam sale and other places. Played Streets of Rage 4 for hours today. I originally just thought it was alright when I played it on gamepass years ago, but I like it a lot better with the DLC, which ups the roster, gives all of the characters customizable moves, and adds a roguelike mode.
I binged some cobalt core and it's a well-designed deckbuilder.
Then a grab bag of retro-shmups. For the most part, games from the PSX/Saturn generation have not aged well but for some reason I love 2d shooters with that aesthetic...just a shitshow of sprites and low rez polygons thrown together to make the biggest spectacle possible given the capabilities of the hardware. There are a lot of little-known games like that on the PC that are pretty good.
Thinking about getting the new Contra soon.
One problem is that I have so many games that I don't even know what I have. A lot of times it's less work to just buy something new rather than look through everything for something to play. This is especially egregious given that I often have unplayed games that are better than the new games I buy.

Solidus Snake Did Nothing Wrong
Tried Lunacid for a while. So far it seems like a competently made dungeon crawler, in the vein of King's Field. But whereas those games are archaic and haven't aged all that well control-wise, this game is easy to play and benefits from a mouse and keyboard.
However, despite it being competently made, I was taken aback by yet another display of degenerate wokeness. In the character creation screen, you are not given a choice between Male and Female, not even Body Type A and B, but a choice of 'pronouns'. Yep, this niche indie game based on an old Japanese PS1 title, went full Soyfield. You can be a They/Them, a Zir, a Xim, any combination you want. Nothing took me out of the experience faster than the character creation screen in this game, it's a complete joke. And of course the first character portrait on screen is some androgynous looking individual, but thankfully you can make it an armoured Knight, so there's that. What a sorry state of affairs.

Finished Mario Party 3. One step forward and one step back. I like how they added a proper single player campaign, an "easy minigames-only" option, and provided additional options to speed things up, but I didn't like how they limited the ways you can customize story mode. It's funny how with AI set to easy it has a reverse difficulty curve where the first couple of levels are the ones with the greatest chances of losing because the later levels have boards that are too complicated for the dumber AI to navigate. Didn't mind it, but glad I can move on from this series now.
The developer is a *****.KnightoftheWind wrote: ↑ July 5th, 2024, 14:53Yep, this niche indie game based on an old Japanese PS1 title, went full Soyfield
As for the game itself, it feels very unfinished. Also, difficulty is nonexistent.
Still playing Battle Brothers after Kal's LP. It's a fun little game, well written too.
Waiting for patch 1.02 that will fix most glaring bugs to resume Field of Glory Kingdoms. Still have to finish AP and resume the work on CK2 Random World when I find the time.

Finished Jensen's Stories for Deus Ex Mankind Divided.
Desperate Measures - solid one-hour sidequest. Loved the hilarious way they presented the necessary clunky exposition at the beginning ("Remember that bombing you were in?" "...Are you trying to be funny?")
System Rift - another solid-but-not-particularly-ambitious sidequest that also feels like content that had to be cut for time, though it's several hours longer than DM. The climax involves doing several light platform-puzzles that would be a chore to go through on replays though.
A Criminal Past - Deus Ex: War Logs. This was as great as the Steam reviews said it would be. Demanding, resource-strained (at least until halfway through when it starts dumping a ton of stuff on you), significant reduction in libtarded writing. You're in a prison so all the inmates are guys, there are far fewer female guards than the base game, and it takes an even-handed "all these bastards are awful" approach to the story. Great cast of characters too. I checked the credits and saw that it shared the same writing team as the base game, so why did it take them so long to bring out their A-game? It took me about 8 hours to complete, so it's a full action-adventure-sized game in itself (about as long as Mars: War Logs even, ha). It got very crash-prone in the administration building, but limiting the application to four cores like other people have recommended solved that issue (not a future-proofed game unfortunately). I vaguely recall reading someone say DX:MD was worth it just to get ACP and I fully agree with that (though I liked the base game too). **** fine imsim.

Just beat Middle-Earth: Shadow of War. Ending kind of left me dumbstruck. The final post-credits cutscene is a bizarre out of nowhere music video homage to their executive producer who died of cancer. It cuts between pictures of him growing up and a big fat human-ogre hybrid fighting orcs with a bladed guitar. He sang the song that plays.
Playing Tunguska after hearing about the dev. Sad part is that all it's doing is making me want to replay S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Playing DDO, just did my 6th epic reincarnation and heroic reincarnation. With an expansion and new high level content coming out in 2 weeks I hope to complete one more set before leveling up a giga fighter for the new level 34 stuff.
Trying duel wield STR ranger right now, my gear is FUBAR but that should change once I get to 18+. It's fun to have long term goals in an RPG system I enjoy, I tried the new elden rangs expansion and it's copy/paste slop.
