A few of us have started playing this game together and it's probably a good idea to make a thread so everyone can find eachother. I'll update the OP with users and their character name(s) as people posted them. :knight:
UserCharacters
@VergilVergstarion (Rogue/Wizard), Veenk (Paladin)
@KalarionKalarionis (Bard)
@LemonDemonGirlAhmanet Samde, Setkuna Lezan
@The_MaskSevenWinds Septerra (Monk)
@TweedIskssissth (Wild Mage)
@asfNllgger (Sorcerer)
Did you pick a server?

I am likely too high for everyone at the moment, sitting at 22 Barbarian atm, let me know if you guys end up on Orien.

I can add you to my guild if you want if you end up on Orien. Though I have a level 34 air ship, not sure if people want those buffs or not, they can overpower some of the early levels.

Yeah, I figured. Best way to play early on anyway.

You can either custom build them however you want or follow a pre-determined level up path two of which allow you to fill a DPS roll.

Warlock or Bard isn't recommended, then, I take it?
I see AD&D is referred to quite a lot, and I know the Bard in AD&D and 3.5 are 2 completely different beasts - but am I to understand that some (older) modules have really been built using rules that are more AD&D (2e, I presume if so) in nature rather than D&D 3.5?

Solution to small UI is play in a lower resolution. It's an issue in both DDO & LotRO, the biggest issue after persistent lag but they've refused to do anything about it for about a decade now.
Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Maybe use something like this and run it at half-res?

Nope, biggest flaw of the game for the most part. You can move everything except the bottom bar and buffs, even use a mod to change the color of the frame, but you can't scale it. One thing that is nice is that its hotkey mapping is very complex and even allows for "creating" a modifier key in addition to shift, alt, and ctrl.

How far away from the screen are you? Seems fine to me and I run 7680x1440.

Hard to tell though with that image I guess, looks fine in game, my setup is 3 32 inch monitors that are 2560x1440.

When you have a thousand dollar video card, you want to super sample everything possible. All jaggies must be eliminated.

Nah. I have two, but only because I made another to play with friends one time in the past, and decided to level him up to max so I could farm gear in the lower dungeons if I wanted to tweak something for a character.

That is probably it then. The 27 inch to the 32 inch probably makes up the difference. I was toying with 27 inches when I was building this setup because I wasn't sure if the 32 inch was going to create a problem for surpassing my peripheral (it didn't and actually worked quite well). I didn't consider that being an issue though.

Well, there is a negative to the PTW. The RNG for named items is horrible at times and spending hours running the same dungeon at level has serious diminishing returns where exp is nill and there is nothing to gain other then "hope" an item might drop. With a high level toon, at least you can speed run quickly. For instance, I have ran the White Dragon on Giant Hold Tor (which is a fairly tough fight at level) around 20+ times and STILL haven't gotten the haste belt to drop. Doing it at level takes a lot of time while my high level toon can do it in 10 mins or less.

Lots of options. You can go 2-handed builds or do a 1 handed setup (even with handwraps). Also, you can play the Archtype paladin as well.

https://ddowiki.com/page/Classes

This is a great 2handed weapon if you can get it:

Image

Also, while I said to be careful with multiclassing, if you do a bit of research it would likely still be safe to do some splashes (ie step into another class for a level or so). Monk, fighter, barb, rogue, Cleric, etc... can greatly increase your classes ability.

Enchancements are the trees you use to tailor your character, you get so many points per level to put into those trees.

https://ddowiki.com/page/Enhancements

For instance, paladin gets these to put points into:
β–Ί Show Spoiler
Every class gets 3-5 trees to work from + racial tree and a special universal trees (depends on what content you own)

So, if you splash a class, you open up those additional trees allowing you to make use of more tools to tailor a build.
Keep in mind the restrictions though and the limits of points you will have total. You can only get the capstones (top tier) from any one tree and your core abilities require so many points spent (as well as how far up a tree you can go).

If you plan it out, you can create something really cool and build a very specific style of character.

So @Vergil , how about doing a mini-journal of your adventures with the group? (or someone for that matter). Would be interesting to hear how things are going, peoples comments and various thoughts about content and systems, etc..., maybe even some reporting on various woke you run into?

Might even encourage some to join you guys as well. I am hesitant because I would have to start over again, though if there are enough people it might be fun to do some of the raids with you guys. Heck, I might even move my single tune over and play with you guys (he only has a couple lives so it wouldn't be overpowered and this is one of the draw backs of playing with new players on a main character because out of the box you are overpowered due to the reincarnations).
