What is the *current* modded state of BG3?

Post by Gregz »

Please read below for context to this question:

<Vergil[m]> BG3 is a legitimately fun game and has high profile banned mods that people are actually interested in using since it is a good game outside of the poz.
<Gregz> "it is a good game outside of the poz" <- can anyone verify this for me?
<Vergil[m]> Half the intrigue of Starfield revolves around it being made by bethesda very little dsicussion about the actual game itself goes on.
<Gregz> and does the current mod state allow 90% of the pozz to be removed?
<Gregz> hell, who am I kidding, even 90% probably won't be enough for me to tolerate it
<Vergil[m]> Ask you dream guru for an answer if you're not willing to play it yourself *****
<Gregz> he doesn't play RPGs
<Gregz> I'm asking you guys
<Gregz> I mean, if the writing and quest themes are fundamentally globohomo, what good is modding?
<Gregz> that's a lot to mod
<Gregz> this is one of those big open theoretical questions imo
<lemondemongirl[m]> Gay
<Gregz> can a game drenched in pozz, but with good underlying mechanics, be salvaged?
<Gregz> BG3 is the ultimate test of that question imo
<Gregz> I suppose the forum is the appropriate place to ask this question
* Gregz grumbles

I'm waiting on the official RPGHQ 100% pozz free BG3 edition to be released before I touch the game. I'm not holding my breath on that.

That is exactly what motivated my question as I'm in the same boat.

Yeah, I made the mistake of thinking the early mods were enough to play the game. I cringed up to ACTII before I just gave up in disgust, even with killing off ALL the origin characters and anyone who might ***/fem it up. I doubt I will ever play it again unless everything is completely removed. The mechanics while a nice change from the slop that is out there don't warrant a second attempt if that garbage is in it (there are still problems with the game on that front).

It will be after September when they release the mod tools. It would be funny if they made it impossible to remove all the faggotry with the tools though.

Maybe I am too paranoid these days, but those are my exact thoughts.

If modding becomes too successful in removing their crap, the narcists are sure to spend their time trying to stop it.

Even if you removed every trace of woke from the game, the overall idiotic plot would still be there. And it's still 5E D&D, so don't expect combat or classes to be anything special.

Mods exist now to remove romances, most of the black people, *much* (not all afaik) of the LGBT and to replace your party members with characters of a different race or sex, including their voice lines. For example, very prominent lesbian romance between two plot NPCs was turned heterosexual by one mod, including related cutscenes. You can even replace the loading screens fairly easily, if you want.

(Better Aesthetics mod)

The game will probably be tolerable for you 90% of the time if you use enough mods, and the reactivity of the various choices you can make is quite entertaining, especially in Act 1. But it's doubtful that it would be an experience you'd look back on with the same fondness as BG1 or 2. There's just too much stupidity baked into the main plot, and it's hard to elaborate on that without spoilers.

There will also probably be at least one or two woke things that mods haven't patched out, and since it's BG3, it will probably be egregious. (Example: I don't think anyone has removed a certain plot NPC's creepy proposition of the player that can happen near the endgame regardless of sex.)

I think there's a difference between modding out some egregious pozzed content and totally sanitizing the game. This character propositioning you is only one of many, many questionable and manipulating things they do.

Baldur’s Better Aesthetics is buggy and unfinished, so I would hold off until we are done with the new aesthetics mod

If you can't play this game with both no alphabets and no romance mods than you might as well stop playing/trying to play any new western game besides I guess sport ones and classic shooters

I don't see how that would be possible considering they aren't releasing tools to correct dialogue, or audio. Unless they put locks on transvestites, gay couples, and blacks. I honestly think they'll focus on filtering anti-woke mods on their modding platform, rather than restricting us of what we do privately.

I fear BG3 will end up like Cyberpunk 2077 in terms of modding - shitloads of mods, of which 99% are disgusting ***** clothing for the female PC created by thots / porn-addicted ******, and no mod that adds anything of substance to the game itself.

That is pretty much what some of us are doing. I don't watch movies, TV shows from this era, I don't play the games unless it is some indie that is 100% clean of the garbage.

The entertainment industries to me are mostly dead and honestly, have been dead for over a decade for the most part.

As for sports and shooters, they are filled with woke crap as well. Just watching sports these days is affirmation of ****** worship because they are all infested with that rhetoric (Just look at the cricket series, its ridiculous). Not to mention, them sliding in "gay" tribute and the like at various times. Shooters are infested with the same for the most part.

Also, lets be honest, they have been woke in various levels and directions since the inception of Hollywood, but... there used to be groups who did produce content with traditional story lines, focus, and direction and didn't pander to it. These days, the attacks on straight white males is in full motion and you can't even walk outside without seeing the effects of it.

So, for the most part it is play older games, fix ones that are fixable, never give them a penny and let them die out.

I'm in the "will wait until the mods that remove the garbage be completed to try the game" boat myself, mainly because 5e of DnD was never something I was interested in but I do like CRPGs nonetheless so I always like to try ones I haven't played before.

There are ways to make it much more difficult to modify the data without having an official tool, but that sort of thing would take extra development time and likely it would have to be implemented when they were creating the engine from the start. Since the game is already released and the bulk of the sales are done, it don't think that much effort will be put to it.

That said, if modding out all the crap becomes popular, rest assured there will be efforts with future game engines to lock down manipulation of assets without a specific tool.

Is it fool proof? Nope.. but they don't have to stop everyone, they just have to make it too difficult for the laymen to have a noticeable effect on this type of modding.

We're already there though, albeit unintentionally. Unreal is a pain to mod, to the point most people don't even bother. Unity and Godot are much easier to mod, but Unity destroyed all the goodwill it had thanks to the ***** in charge of the company, and it remains to be seen whether Godot will be able to pick up the slack.

Bethesda is making each new iteration of their engine harder and harder to mod, with more things locked down.

If you go look at ModDB, the vast majority of mods, and virtually all ambitious mods, are for games that have been released 15+ years ago.

With custom engines disappearing and Unreal becoming a near monopoly, modding is on its way out, especially since the vast majority of devs have no wish to allow their userbase to modify the game.

EDIT: And for indie games, most simply lack the critical mass of people necessary to spawn and sustain a thriving modding community. Stardew Valley is one in a million. I guess people will just keep modding Skyrim for the next 20 years.

Which is funny because the path they are on will narrow their market greatly. Eventually people will stop playing games all together and find some other hobby or form of entertainment.

I know I do a lot less on the computer than I used to and find myself being outside more. There are becoming fewer reasons to stay inside.

Half-baked.

They had a whole Illithid ceremorphosis story they butchered along with Balduran and Illithid lore in service to presumptive ****** players that they thought couldn't live with bad outcomes from stupid choices.

Then they also butchered the Dark Three storyline by sabotaging Baldur's Gate city and the three paragons, cutting a ton of content in the last big push to release a "finished" game.
There are tons of voiceovers and cutscenes not even implemented, ffs.
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

And then doubled down by sabotaging any possible effort from the fanbase they had created to restore such content.

The story is not great, the mechanics grow old quite fast a lot of the content is a slog.

After the novelty of the mechanics wear off and you see how, while there is reactivity, it's not really relevant for much in the overarching game.

It's on the same level of Divinity 2 which also is way to long and way to filled with filler stuff to make it good. I played it until the third act and then got bored (and reached max level quite early on that act)

I do not think mods can fix the story. I just don't think it's great to be honest, mods or not.
