But SHOULD you?
Various role-playing RPG game stuff not deserving its own thread
Reject your retarded-wing political programming and learn to think.
If you can.
If you have played ToEE, but want to see a very small amount of new content (Moathouse ambush; the traders sending an assassin after you) or you don't like the portraits (the main draw for many) then use Co8 "vanilla" and Temple+.
If you want a lot of new content that's potentially interesting but not especially well-balanced use Co8 NC ("new content") and Temple+.
for my taste
I really like to watch some let's plays on the side while working, if I have the time, can you guys recommend some to me? It must be someone who is willing to explain what he is doing and why in-game, eg. something comprehensive.
You might be interested in Archaelund. It's still in early access for a while, though.

I have already wishlisted it, not willing to support Early access to be honest but looking forward what the release brings.

I feel like let's play really died with the popularity of streaming/long-form video essays. I can't name a single person who still does them.Lord of Riva wrote: ↑ June 20th, 2024, 19:48While I am really interested in older games and have played my fair share of them, for example I grew up on the realm of arcania games some of the games are a bit too clunky

Same for
Also not out yet, but he seems to be working on it quite actively though and the demo he released a while ago was pretty decent. It's more like Krondor, but it felt like old-school being done right.
For already released games, this one is pretty decent but single-char
And you have the two Amberlands, M&M-like but also very decent

Just to reiterate, I have played modern iterations of games like these, they are normally not problematic since they only emulate old games and have already most clunkyness ironed out.
I am refering to things like the Gold box games which are basically arcane to me up to old Dungeon crawlers, from games I have already downloaded via ExoDoS: like ishar, Lords of Doom (which looks interesting but I am unable to play) or world of Xeen.
They're called longplays now and people still quietly do them.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ June 20th, 2024, 23:11I feel like let's play really died with the popularity of streaming/long-form video essays. I can't name a single person who still does them.

The closest I can think of may be the Kingdom Management system of Pathfinder: Kingmaker.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ June 23rd, 2024, 04:36Crazy how many upgrades/recruitables the keep in NWN2 had, I wish there were RPGs entirely about this kind of stuff

Having said that, the Kingdom Management system is really, REALLY, hard to get into and the learning curve can take more than one playthrough. It's nowhere near as easy-to-folloe as the NWN2 Crossroad Keep.
I hated the NWN2 interface so I dropped it pretty fast. Any good UI mods recommended?rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ June 23rd, 2024, 04:36Crazy how many upgrades/recruitables the keep in NWN2 had, I wish there were RPGs entirely about this kind of stuff

I tried picking from my list randomly and playing for a little bit before switching to another game, and all I got out of it was dozens of unfinished games. Now I just pick one and try to finish it before picking another.Greyborne wrote: ↑ June 24th, 2024, 18:50How do you guys get through your backlog? Do you play one game at a time? I rarely finish any of the games in my library anymore, even though there's a **** ton I want to actually play through. I feel like having the novelty of scrolling through countless games is the cause.

I do not have a large Steam backlog. I do not impulse buy games simply because there is a Steam sale. I only buy games if I seriously intend to actually play them, usually when I mean to play them immediately, even if that means paying full price. I have my Steam library organized into two tabs: games that I intend to play (with this being the default tab that I see when I click my library), and games I do not (which is hidden unless I click on it). So whenever I open my library I only see about a dozen or so titles.Greyborne wrote: ↑ June 24th, 2024, 18:50How do you guys get through your backlog? Do you play one game at a time? My steam library is about 251 games, plus an emulation library of close to a thousand (most of them hand picked from research or previous playthroughs)Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ June 24th, 2024, 19:28I do not have a large Steam backlog. So, there was a time I tended to impulse buy on Steam. But for most of the titles, I did as much research as I could before buying.
There's no way I'll play through even half of these in my lifetime, but I kind of have the mind of an archivist. I want to amass all the games I like, know I would like, or think I would like. It's a vicious cycle.
Not having to work certainly helps.
I dunno, but it's pretty bad.

you know, as disgusting as this thing is, it somehow still feels far less heinous and vulgar than an average AAA studio cramming alphabet degenerates and practices in their games - I guess at least it's being honest about its purpose and target audience?Rand wrote: ↑ June 25th, 2024, 21:10Is this the faggiest, most degenerate RPG?
