I tested the demo years ago, thought it had potential. Since then, I've been spoiled by dungeon crawlers with larger party size. I might check out the full release down the road.

Just finished the starter island. I'll go on for a bit, but doubt I'll finish it.

First of all, you have to go in rather blind. You chose your usual race (no gender), class and distribute attribute points. But what exactly they do, I don't know. You can reduce them all to 1, naturally my non-magic character first went with Mind 1. Eventually I restarted and went with the pre-gen group, because of inconsistency in the attribute description.

Here you got Mind during char creation

Image

And here in-game

Image

So, it affects my experience/learning now? Can't have it on 1 then I guess...Also, if it's only affecting Divine and Arcane magic, what is with Water, Fire, Air etc.? This seems to be different magic classes.

There are also no derivatives shown. **** knows how initiative is being calculated, or how much I even have.

Next, the UI is just crap. There are no tooltips, scaling is all over the place, and worst of all combat is via a list menu. To use a simple sword skill you have to click, Ability then Sword then Skill then you have to select the enemy. It just takes way too many clicks to do anything in that game.

Image

I also noticed an exclamation mark icon in the bottom left corner. Thought it might be some sort of tool tip, active effect, I don't know. Turns out it's a teleporter button. Teleports you to the nearest POI, even if you have never been there. Was a bit confusing to suddenly spawn in an unknown location.

Lastly, and the reason why I may quit soon is the quest design. I am only on the starter island, but there were already two (edit: three, I forgot one) quests that ****** me off. One you had to find a necklace. I actually had to check a YT video for that. Its hidden under some random pile of wood. You get a notification, if your perception is high enough. Nobody in the pre-gen party apparently has high enough PER, so the only way for you to find it would be to click every single pixel of the map.

Second quest was about observing goblins. Before I accepted the quest, I already genocided them. Still, I couldn't return the quest, thought might be broken. Again, I had to check Steam. You have to stand on some random rock for 30-60 sec (according to the dev) to observe the goblins, or in my case, an empty camp. Now, there was some ping after only a few seconds. So, I am not sure about the 30-60 sec but that comes straight from the dev.

Third quest, you are to report pirate activates on the island. To close this quest, you have to find a random chest and loot it. No indication whatsoever where on the map you are supposed to look and there are tons of crates scattered around.

Maybe I missed some clues, but honestly I doubt it.

From what 1998 (thank you  ) reported it seems a bit clunky, but it does look like it might scratch that old-school itch for me that I can see. Can't play right now, but I will definetly keep tabs on this, thank you for sharing rusty!

Played a bit more, not too much though. First real town looks nice, but it's essentially around 30 houses in different districts each with another trainer. It just feels a bit too much to have a trainer for every single skill in one town.

There are a couple of quests as well, one to clean the town's sewers from rats. There I am currently stuck in what seems like an endless loop of enemies. Whenever I beat a wave of enemies, another one starts without having a chance to do anything, healing, moving, equipping whatever. I think the issue could be that I leveled up the previous fight and the game spawns new enemies for the already cleared part of the dungeon and for some reason, they are all gangbanging on me. I can't even see where they are coming from.

I am sure it won't be a big issue in the end, but currently too tired to go through that bs.

Finally got the time to give it another (probably last) try. Now that it is a bit more open, and you would need to technically go on your usual dungeon runs, back healing up etc. the walking speed really is a problem. It's much too slow. To give you an idea, it took me 22 sec to reach this healer's hut.

Not ****, but crazy buggy and clumsy in some ways.

First he really needs to fix the walking speed and UI. In many ways it legit feels like an old game, that aged poorly.

But even technically issues aside, first town consists of 30 teacher and 50+ rats constantly attacking you. Not exactly peak fun. Currently I am in a dungeon where I need to find 7 items "randomly" hidden in one of many containers, I got only 5 so far. The whole dungeon is already dead, it's just me slooooowly crawling back and forth, opening every chest and barrel trying to find the last two items.

When items are randomly placed like that, the quest giver should tell you which random locations they could be, or where they were last seen. Or put them in a different model chest, at least.

Don't even think its really random, there are some hidden in more obvious places, others just in random containers. I think he handplaced them there. But for the player, it doesn't make a difference.

You should make a thread on the steam forums about the slow walking speed so the dev can see it

There are already some. His response are that you can get buffs via Inn-resting (lasts for about 45 sec, pretty useless) and some spell. Don't have that spell yet.

Found the last item, finished another 2 dungeons and moved on a bit, but areas only get larger and larger. It reminds me a bit of very early NWN modules of large forest maps with nothing in it.

I am out... :(
