Speaking of og Dragon Age, I believe that whatever happened to the game's writing happened with the Leliana DLC and the Awakening DLC or somewhere in between, if not shortly after.

I honestly forgot about the one dying. I just recalled how it was a nerve-wracking experience before, but in Awakening it was almost a given that anyone you get WILL survive the Joining. There are some that feel like "transition" changed their lives for the best and they feel more at ease in their "new body", but it is an illusion. It "works" because the "I am a woman/man now" is an excuse to finally move their *** to lose weight and clean up, which, obviously, makes them look better, and in turn, reinforces the illusion that "transition" was "the best choice they ever made", while in reality they put on a costume and hid their insecurity issues and, ironically, their "true selves" inside to focus on anything else besides facing what the real problem is.
I am bad at explaining, so, as a better example: I used to drink alcohol and feel "better", so, in my head, alcohol was the cure for all my ills, health be damned ("not in my case! My case is different!"). While under the effects I would feel more productive, and thus I would work harder and get more things done, especially because I was numb to pain and distracted from every other issue, which was left to rot and ignored (thus "better" because they were "out of sight, out of mind"). When I stopped drinking I had to deal with both the rotting things I left behind AND the effects of what the alcohol did to me, plus all the coping I ingrained in my head AND the temptation I still feel to just drink again and feel "better", so I have now double the work, but I also have nothing rotting away and whatever remains might be bleeding, but it is right at the surface that I can see and not being ignored. These people's alcohol is their idea that "becoming" the other sex will solve their problems and insecurities. Some women say they can now "speak louder" because they are now a "man", for example. They could ALWAYS speak louder, they held themselves back with their mental issuses, and still are, as the moment the costume falls off the insecurities and all the rest are still there, if not worse. It is all an illusion. Those that "truly" are ***** suffer from something far different than what these clowns suffer from, something called dysphoria which is like a sort of imposter syndrome ("this is not my arm!", "this is not how I look like!" which is a mental disease), and changing their appearance makes them not want to kill themselves, but they are, usually, fully aware they are not a man/woman, and the "transition" is just the last resort treatment so they don't do something stupid after every other option did not work, and majority still kill themselves (these people have always been extremely rare, and I see it as something fascinating, like the other mental illness where people truly believe they have insects inside their skin).
Sorry for the possible wall of text, but this sort of thing has to be said so no one is tricked into believing even for a second that this **** will change anyone's lives for the better. It is a lie and an illusion that should never be condoned.

I risk going TMI but I will reveal some things that I think are the reason why this industry has become so bad. DEI and "representation" are pushed a lot in degrees that primarily target women. Child care, teaching, creative writing, nursing, hospitality, communication, human resource all force you to go through DEI training and study DEI. For my degree I was told that representation matters and that I need to make people, especially children (they do this a lot with DEI training. Sucker you in using kids) feel "represented". After all we are all from different cultures and backgrounds and everyone wants to be seen. I personally just roll my eyes at this stuff but for many naïve young women I can see them buying this ****. It is very emotionally manipulative and, as we all know all to well, women are more easy to sway and manipulate with emotion.
So you get all these women with these degrees who have developed a savior complex from college and university going into the gaming industry and wanting to change the industry so that the poor, marginalized women and children feel "seen". This proves once again that colleges and universities just buck break women mentally.
