It's the same ******* thing with the drow. They became ultra popular (probably due to the Salvatore books), but as time went on, they became the focus of gay / BDSM fantasies (just google 'drow' and the gay / femdom **** starts)

the main hangup is that TSR Forgotten Realms is not Greenwood's Forgotten Realms, and 5E Forgotten Realms is much closer to Greenwood's.

That does explain that freaky cuckquean stuff regarding the conception and birth of the Seven Sisters group. I always felt weirded out by that, and Greenwood being a shameless deviant make sense. lolrusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ September 12th, 2024, 06:59forgotten realms drow, much like the entirety of FR itself, were just greenwood's sexual fetish insert

3) Wizards of the Coast pushed for a Bhaalspawn story, Larian pushed for Mindflayers. The end result is one in which Bhaal is somehow being linked to Mindflayers in a way that feels rushed and convoluted and results in the system where Mindflayers aren't reall Mindflayers they're just tentacled good guys with no negative Mindflayer traits.
Lol. Who the **** decided the game.. was it woct? or Larian.. i dont see why people defend Larian.
1) Jergel, a god of the dead, follows your camp for the entire playthrough in the guise of Withers. WIther's is there to ensure the defeat of the Dead Three and yet despite the fact you have one of the more powerful gods traveling with you this never amounts to anything for narrative sake.
All this **** sounds baldurs gate, except what larian had in mind.
Sorry for repetable topics.
My last bet Larian updates their game for 1-2 more years, secretly adds the **** like they did to dos 2, or people take the pictchfork.

That explains why the story so disjointed, what’s funny is that I like the Bhaalspawn story more as suppose to the very much underutilized mindflayer plot.

That brings up many questions then especially for the Dark urge character.
Four years later and and a 100 patches larian will keep saying that the next patch will be there last.BLofbr wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 12:54

I should really stop reading more into Baldur's Gate 3 until it has been completely overhauled and whatever this is has been ddestroyed from the ground up, it just makes me madder the more I learn.

I couldn't care less about the main plot. Most RPGs have boring main quests that are just excuses to have a video game.

Gods are very, very limited in what they are allowed to do. The entire reason the Dead Three accepted demotion to quasi-deities is because they wanted to remain in the world and cause chaos. Also, Jergal is being punished for being stupid enough to give his powers to the Dumb Three. It's why he was in the crypt in the first place: Helm (god of justice) crammed him into a coffin and told him to stay put and rot until some generous mortal let him out.BLofbr wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 12:543) Wizards of the Coast pushed for a Bhaalspawn story, Larian pushed for Mindflayers. As for said Dumb Three thinking that enslaving an elder brain is a good idea: they once managed to **** the ultimate top god off so much that he banished every single other god and made them all mortal until they learned their lessons. Trust me, idiot plots are very much their deal.
Now if any of that seems surprising to you then that would only be the case because the stupid game doesn't tell you the backstory you need to understand its ******* plot!
Game doesnt tell you ****, and Withers him self doesnt talk much about himself and stuff, and you dont find much about him. he just stands in camp and ask if you want a dead ressed and respec.SoLong wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 15:14Gods are very, very limited in what they are allowed to do. To sum up what would happen if Jergal strolled to Baldur's Gate and cleared up the mess for us: Overgod Ao would smite him so hard he'd be retroactively removed from existence before cleaning up the rest of the pantheon (and probably reset the universe or something equally drastic). The last time the Dumb Three ****** up he punished the gods collectively for doing so poor a job and made two things very clear: The latest debacle was the first strike and none of them would make it past strike two.BLofbr wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 15:25Game doesn't tell you ****, and Withers him self doesn't talk much about himself and stuff, and you don't find much about him. he just stands in camp and ask if you want a dead ressed and respec.SoLong wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 15:14Gods are very, very limited in what they are allowed to do. Actually, chances are the other gods (yes, even the evil ones) are keeping a close eye on Jergal precisely so he doesn't do anything stupid. They'd work together to stop him out of self-preservation if for no other reason.

Withers/Jergal becomes VERY important for a Dark Urge who decides to be a good guy and reject their evil nature.Unhelpful Contrarian wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 13:35BLofbr wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 12:54

Skyrim Belongs to the Nords.
Geek the Mage first.
There is no virtue in extending mercy to those who want you dead.
Justice will prevail, you say? But of course it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice!

It's a shame that Forgotten Realms took most of the attention from Greyhawk, although there were obviously political reasons for why TSR would do that. But Greyhawk only got one video game that I can recall (TOEE). Mystera got far more. Heck, even Eberron got more! But Greyhawk is more grounded setting of any of the major ones.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ September 12th, 2024, 06:59forgotten realms drow, much like the entirety of FR itself, were just greenwood's sexual fetish insert

You cannot reason a person out of a position he did not reason himself into in the first place.
Tldr - Gary was pushed out of TSR in the 80s, there was a lot of bad blood, and they didn't want to pay him royalties.OnTilt wrote: ↑ September 16th, 2024, 02:34Huh? Can you give me a tldr version? I'm rather ignorant about the history of these thingsAcrux wrote: ↑ September 14th, 2024, 19:14

Which are the main sourcebooks for Greyhawk, do you know? I' ve downloaded quite a few but as far as I am able to tell only the Greyhawk City book and the 1983 boxed set (rather in a non-pdf friendly format) seem "source book material / canon ". Sorry, not able to put this in a better way atm.Acrux wrote: ↑ September 16th, 2024, 02:40Tldr - Gary was pushed out of TSR in the 80s, there was a lot of bad blood, and they didn't want to pay him royalties.OnTilt wrote: ↑ September 16th, 2024, 02:34Huh? Probably, most of the *** patrol will frenzy on anyone who doesn't worship faggotry. Seen people have normal respectful discussions get banned when these morons come swarming in. They levy personal attacks all over the place calling people "bigots, homophobes, racist, Nazi's, etc..." and the person they attack ends up getting banned. I sometimes wonder if those accounts are the mods, or people who know them.BLofbr wrote: ↑ August 17th, 2024, 19:39

I have to admit, I was never a big guy on story. Just give me a solid game system filled with depth and a long road of obstacles to progress through. Though most of the older cRPGs were nothing more than very simple basic plots, a lot of exploring and fighting. That suits me just fine.Vergil wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 14:09I couldn't care less about the main plot. Most RPGs have boring main quests that are just excuses to have a video game.
I've been having a lot of fun with the roguelike mod just playing it as a purely combat oriented game with no real story or dialog at all.Xenich wrote: ↑ September 19th, 2024, 20:59I have to admit, I was never a big guy on story.
