Valheim server
Valheim server
Myself and a handful of other former codexers are going to host a dedicated server in the near future. If anyone is interested in joining, drop a reply here and I'll PM you the info when everything's up and running.
I'm interested, have minimal Valheim experience. Only beat the first two bosses, have not played for many months

Our experience levels range from hundreds of hours to zero hours (that includes me, I've yet to actually try the game) so that's not an issue.

Same. It's looking like the majority of us will be noobs, which is good.
I'm interested. I'll be able to play but no idea how consistently

It appears that the game is capped at 10 players to a server at any given time, and keeping in mind that there are already a number of confirmed players from elsewhere, to avoid disappointing anyone I think it's best to close invites at this time until we get a feel for how busy the server is going to be. If the server is not hitting capacity then invites will reopen.
If all goes to plan, the server will be up and ready tomorrow. I'll send a PM to everyone who posted above as soon as I have the details.
Finally, this goes without saying but we all intend to co-operate and have fun. There are no rules except don't be a ****. Looking forward to seeing you all in the wilderness.

I don't know, I haven't played it. I've heard it described positively as "minecraft for old men" if that helps.

If you have been having issues connecting to the server, you're not alone. In my case, it usually takes 4 or 5 attempts before a connection is successful. For now all I can say is keep trying and it should work. If the issues persist I will talk to the host and see if there are any settings which can be changed.

I tried like 30 times now and I already feel ******** for it.H-H-Holmes wrote: ↑ September 23rd, 2023, 18:30If you have been having issues connecting to the server, you're not alone. It's apparently related to the crossplay 'feature' and it needs to be disabled server side by the host.
The host has disabled Cross play and restarted the server, should be good to log in now. For those of you who had issues give us an update when you can.

It's a minecraft viking game with expanded "RPG" mechanics. Ultimately there are 6 world bosses that must be slain and mini bosses as well. You craft and upgrade gear as you gain access to increasingly hostile biomes. Eventually you can craft magical artifacts from the corpses of the bosses you slay.
There is also the building aspect of the game, you can build your own house/lodge/tower/castle and as the server defeats bosses the game will spawn enemy raids on your locations.
You can also build a ship and sail the seas killing sea serpents. It's an autistic viking survival Sim.
Most of the boring hard part will be done by the more experienced players on the server. You can just use their crafting benches and supplies, repairing equipment is free and you can corpse run to get your stuff back. So once your decked out in bronze equip you can just be a viking and kill ****GhostCow wrote: ↑ September 24th, 2023, 15:32^That actually sounded cool until I saw the word "craft"

I have been drowning and getting killed pretty hard, I can't efficiently use the chat on steamdeck, and I can only describe my crafting as ******, but I am punching a lot of trees and I'm going to build a gym to gooder up my white hero.
Weirdest cracker you know.

Chat works OKish once you figure out the hotkey for the chat prompt. Depends on your controller setting, mine is left trigger + double squares (small button up left)maidenhaver wrote: ↑ September 24th, 2023, 16:33I have been drowning and getting killed pretty hard, I can't efficiently use the chat on steamdeck, and I can only describe my crafting as ******, but I am punching a lot of trees and I'm going to build a gym to gooder up my white hero.
Server is rather dead at times and I haven't seen more than 6 people in it at a time yet so I'll talk to Koldun (the host) about opening invites again. Maybe you can ask him if you see him first @Boontaker

I suggest before you do that to make a tally of time zones. Otherwise you run the risk of overcrowding a specific timezone while in the others the server will still be dead. You could also use this to optimize server location.H-H-Holmes wrote: ↑ September 24th, 2023, 16:48Server is rather dead at times and I haven't seen more than 6 people in it at a time yet so I'll talk to Koldun (the host) about opening invites again. I am CST most of the time.

I hate that "shouting," or global chat, is in all caps.Decline wrote: ↑ September 24th, 2023, 16:44Chat works OKish once you figure out the hotkey for the chat prompt. Depends on your controller setting, mine is left trigger + double squares (small button up left)
On my way to Black Forest to do a mining run, I discovered a tiny antisocial unabomber shack hidden in the wood a short distance away from the main camp. My first thought was that it's one of the random abandoned buildings that the game generates, but upon entering I found a cramped bed and workbench inside, I then burst into laughter when I discovered the bed belonged to rusty.
