No RPG elements? It probably goes here!

Don't list anything from Doom II if you can help it. That one is too easy.

I kind of like it when games do this, especially if they add something extra to it. Here's a few to get you started.

Faith No More - Surprise! You're Dead & Ikari Warriors theme from King of Fighters '94

Lifeforce main theme & Attacked by Bandits from Baldur's Gate 1

Phil Collins - Easy Lover & A Quiet Pursuit from Double Dragon II

As an aside the YouTube search algorithm is cancer.

It's usually either classical music, prog rock, or jazz fusion for some reason.

The Final Fantasy music guy does this a lot. Too many to list.

Emerson Lake and Palmer vs FFIV

This article has a bunch of the original songs compared to the games.

I recall reading about quite a few incidents where people thought there was some sort of plagiarizing going on but it turned out they both just used the same source for stock music. Anyone happen to know what I'm referring to by chance?
Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Robo's Theme vs Rick Astley

Does it count if the same person wrote both songs?
Stranger in Moscow (MJs best song, IMHO) vs Sonic 3

Sounds like someone just didn't know what sample libraries/sample albums are.

Also this is one I found on my own, but this part of the System Shock 1 soundtrack REALLY sounds like the Phantasm theme.

To be fair, artists do sample all the time. And no matter how careful you are, eventually you will end up producing something that sounds similar to something else. The current copyright regime that lasts 100+ years does not reflect this reality, so musicians are always at risk of being sued one day. Even if they end up copying something made in the 1930s or 40s, by complete accident.

Not exactly plagiarism but the BG1 intro theme is very clearly inspired by the Conan intro:

This is probably deliberate and the entire audience has just been Rickrolled.

The lead composer for Final Fantasy XIV, Masayoshi Soken, was accused of plagarizing Powerman 5,000's "When Worlds Collide" for the Sephirot phase 2 boss theme "Fiend".

Couldn't find the Genesis version, it probably went by a different name that I can't be bothered to sift through.

mario guy ripped off this track for the mario music that plays when you're underground; don't even have to list the mario counterpart, just give it a listen and you'll instantly know what this is
