Atlas Shrugged. And fell. Atlas Fallen.

Post by rusty_shackleford »

Probably not the best decision to release a medium-budget RPG less than a week after one of the bigger games of the year and less than a month before the next biggest game of the year, but hey, Atlas Fallen!

Anyone gonna play it?

I doubt it would've sold better with a different release date. Looks really uninspired and generic, I forgot about this game's existence shortly after it was announced. And that despite the fact that I liked their previous outings.

They should've stuck to The Surge 3.

Honestly, if I was a game developer, I'd time a medium budget video game for release a week or two after a big game release.

Most big games are colossal buggy failures, and being the "fall-back" video game is a good niche to fill. People will probably be more forgiving of minor bugs at that point too, as long as nothing major is wrong.

Except they managed to release it less than a week after the one major release that isn't a buggy, unoptimized mess. rip to them.

I'll probably pirate it eventually. It looks kind of cool just because the desert setting reminds me of Brandon Sanderson's White Sand.

It looks like smooth brain gameplay, big flashy easy to execute combos. I might torrent it later on to try it out, but I'm not expecting much.

The Surge 2 is a very good game, btw.

Buuuut here we go again with the Mixed reviews. These guys refuse to learn. I think S2 was their first game to release to a positive rating. Eh, will probably skip this one.

I think I had it wishlisted, because I heard of it a long time ago. But I probably won't play it until next year. It's really unfortunate, but between BG III and Starfield, I probably won't have the time for anything else.

Mediocre or bad games can still have parts that are good.

I played it for a bit, but I didn't finish it. There is no hidden gem here, the game is as it appears to be on the surface, a mediocre ARPG installment. The combat can be easy or challenging depending on how you approach it, but if you do what I did and actually use the sand armor to parry attacks (the activation frames are extremely generous, and you can boost it even further), and properly utilize the momentum gauge, you can drop even boss encounters extremely quickly. Slotting skills that boost momentum gain seemed like a no-brainer, because inflicting damage is directly tied to this gauge including the finisher which does a ton of damage. I played it on the highest difficulty setting available. It's fairly well optimized, I didn't run into any performance/optimization or stability issues at all, the game ran mostly locked at my monitor's 144hz refresh rate at 1440p and it didn't crash once. It's worth a try if you like these sort of games.

Do you at least get any followers in the game?

No NPC followers, but there's coop if you actually buy the game, which I didn't.
