The game has a free demo. Anyone play it? Thoughts on the full game?

This is a bad sign. But I love DRPGs that are turn-based or close to it enough that I'm willing to hold out hope.
Agree, imagine being proud of being Ukranian. About as cringe as being proud of being Russian.
Look, unless you're going out of the way to make the game itself Ukrainian, I don't care where the dev team is actually from.

Virtue signaling that you're from a specific country because supporting it is in vogue is not a good sign, it looks like a plea for "buy this because evil russians are invading my house"
It could be good, it has a lot of positive reviews.

It also speaks poorly for the stability of the project, because "patch won't be happening because the developer got drafted and/or exploded by Russians" is not the outcome you want to have.rusty_shackleford wrote: β January 4th, 2026, 23:42Virtue signaling that you're from a specific country because supporting it is in vogue is not a good sign, it looks like a plea for "buy this because evil russians are invading my house"

I remember the lead S.T.A.L.K.E.R dev was KiA in Ukraine. So definitely a risk.Norfleet wrote: β January 5th, 2026, 01:32It also speaks poorly for the stability of the project, because "patch won't be happening because the developer got drafted and/or exploded by Russians" is not the outcome you want to have.rusty_shackleford wrote: β January 4th, 2026, 23:42Virtue signaling that you're from a specific country because supporting it is in vogue is not a good sign, it looks like a plea for "buy this because evil russians are invading my house"
Hoholker 2 sucked, probably still sucks but I'm not motivated enough to play that slop again.King Crispy wrote: β January 5th, 2026, 02:18I remember the lead S.T.A.L.K.E.R dev was KiA in Ukraine. Edit: Just reminded myself that Hoholker 2 wasn't even developed in Hoholstan anyway, they've fled to Czech as soon as the SMO started. The dead dev was just volunteering for his own death.

I saw that they responded to the most popular critical review (which looked like it had a lot of useful feedback) with the "you played it for 40 hours and gave a negative review" meme. They also implied that they wouldn't be able to make future updates because of the negative review. I'd sit on this one for a while.

Tip for future developers: Don't respond to reviews unless it's to offer a refund. Just don't do it, it's that easy!Acrux wrote: β January 5th, 2026, 03:25I saw that they responded to the most popular critical review (which looked like it had a lot of useful feedback) with the "you played it for 40 hours and gave a negative review" meme.

I've seen some devs respond to negative reviews thanking the authors for the thorough critiques. I don't know if that was just a PR move or if they intended to act on the feedback, but it does make for a good image.rusty_shackleford wrote: β January 5th, 2026, 03:27Tip for future developers: Don't respond to reviews unless it's to offer a refund. I saw a marketing trailer which just consisted of the negative reviews posted about the game, where the reviewers were whining that the game was too hard, too boring and unengaging (the ad then cut to the hours played on the reviewer's profile), etc., etc.. I actually wanted to play the game, but couldn't find it on PirateBay so subsequently forgot about the actual game entirely, but the marketing trailer was ******* hilarious for it.WhiteShark wrote: β January 5th, 2026, 03:35I've seen some devs respond to negative reviews thanking the authors for the thorough critiques. How strange. Yet if the person had played for 2 minutes they'd complained they'd not played long enough to form an opinion.Norfleet wrote: β January 5th, 2026, 04:27I saw a marketing trailer which just consisted of the negative reviews posted about the game, where the reviewers were whining that the game was too hard, too boring and unengaging (the ad then cut to the hours played on the reviewer's profile), etc., etc.. Surely people who have played a while have a better right to comment?
The point is that the guy complained the game was boring, but then proceeded to play like hundreds more hours after that.BobT wrote: β January 5th, 2026, 17:31How strange. Yet if the person had played for 2 minutes they'd complained they'd not played long enough to form an opinion.
Maybe it was a completionist autist, or a family member, or a reviewer, or just considered it boring but finished it anyway because there was little better to do. It doesn't invalidate the opinion.Norfleet wrote: β January 5th, 2026, 20:46The point is that the guy complained the game was boring, but then proceeded to play like hundreds more hours after that.BobT wrote: β January 5th, 2026, 17:31How strange. Regardless, it was a funny enough result that the devs apparently felt this negative review was hilarious enough to be used in marketing, since the entire promotional trailer for the game was just the negative reviews.BobT wrote: β January 5th, 2026, 20:50Maybe it was a completionist autist, or a family member, or a reviewer, or just considered it boring but finished it anyway because there was little better to do. Unless it was for being too based, it sounds a bit butthurt.Norfleet wrote: β January 5th, 2026, 20:59Regardless, it was a funny enough result that the devs apparently felt this negative review was hilarious enough to be used in marketing, since the entire promotional trailer for the game was just the negative reviews.BobT wrote: β January 5th, 2026, 20:50Maybe it was a completionist autist, or a family member, or a reviewer, or just considered it boring but finished it anyway because there was little better to do. Butthurt would have required the devs post some kind of rebuttal. Instead, the trailer was just the negative reviews presented without commentary, allowed to speak for themselves. And it was ******* hilarious and made me wnat to play the thing.BobT wrote: β January 5th, 2026, 21:11Unless it was for being too based, it sounds a bit butthurt.
I've decided to check the game in Steam, and hohels had forbidden even showing it in search results for Russia.
Such daring devs. They should be drafted to protect their homeland ASAP. I've heard that Trump was thinking about threatening Canada.
