I only ever played the second game for about 2 hours. Turned it off when I heard "bonerfart".

It's actually pretty fun but it sucks how bad the writing/story/etc., is. Very early case of the kind of writing that came to dominate game writing.

Lets be real BL2 was both swansong and lightning in a bottle for that shitstain that is Gearbox

Never did they reach the fame of BL2 again. And even that game was just a decent shooter with **** dialogue about farts and cocks. Handsome Jack can be argued was written well but I think its just the VA carrying hard.

I dunno just my *** opinion

I actually like the presequel more than BL2

but again, you gotta be willing to just ignore all story stuff and play for fun

I'm a bit worried about the performance and optimization of the game since I bought it. ( The gameplay looks fun and the story is supposed to be less reddit cringe)

Some rando on the internet said that the VA adlibbed a lot of Jack's lines, and that the lead writer (pictured below) was pissy as hell about it.

Borderlands 2 was a product of its time and cannot be replicated today. The humor that was funny back then would probably mostly fall flat and be cringe now. Ignoring the already reported bad performance, I hope they turned things around for 4

Burch posted his own L here, the source is him https://www.gearboxsoftware.com/2013/09 ... some-jack/
*This was an adlib by Dameon Clarke, the voice of Handsome Jack. It’s easily Jack’s single most popular line, and I didn’t frigging write it. I will never forgive Dameon for this.
And yes Jack is only funny because of the delivery. Most of the lines themselves are just obnoxiously stupid.

It was already cringe reddit humor back then, but at least cringe reddit humor was kind of fresh and novel to a lot of people.

That would check out actually. His lines are too consistenly decent to good. His acting feels like freestyling almost. The character of Jack feels like an anomaly in that pisshole

As much as I want to enjoy looter shooters, the problem, at least for me, is that the "difficulty" is managed by "enemy sponginess" and "enemies having exponentially higher damage output". Which, when the weapons are mostly hitscan and give me 0 chance to dodge, means that the game turns into a "**** you, go hide and heal" cover shooter. Enemy AI decision-making and tactics are rarely factored into the difficulty scaling.

I don't want to play as any of these ******** annoying characters, the game costs too much, has invasive DRM, performs too poorly, and the writing is certainly terrible. Overall no different from any other AAA release.

Borderlands 3 had very solid gunplay that can be quite enjoyable but was let down with its dogshit writing and humour that made me want to throw my console out the window. From what I seen online discourse Borderlands 4 is much the same with the benefit of its writing being slightly less cringe.

Who cares?
The first one was okay, but it was designed badly as a multiplayer pseudo-MMO.
It made the game world sterile and nonsensical.
If you told me it was designed originally as an MMO, I would believe it.
Even the map layout has that vibe, not to mention the stupid main quest ending.

Every subsequent one was crappier, with uglier and more unappealing mutt playable characters.

Diablo predates MMOs. Yes, it was designed as a multiplayer game like Diablo and Diablo 2.

One of the things I wish they kept in the original game was the more subdued humour instead of learning the wrong lessons in BL2 success which was tripling down on its comedic aspects.( which is done poorly)

It's not so much that you're not American, these things happen.

It's that you're a **** masquerading as a leaf by aping the Commonwealth mannerisms and spellings. I'd say you should be ashamed of yourself for what you've done to your host country but ****. RAUS.

The devs are digging their graves on this one.

Instead of admitting they basically did zero optimization, they started responding to the negative Steam comments about the bad framerate with gaslighting ********.

Then they had a couple of interns cook up an "optimization" sheet for every major card using, apparently, ChatGPT or the like, because it makes zero sense if you know anything.
They have three cards with the same VRAM recommend different textures (medium textures for 3090ti, high textures for 4080, and very high for 5080). Man they must be high.
They also recommend things like anisotropic filtering be set at less than 16x, something that has maybe a 1-2fps boost in best cases on any modern card.

Absolutely mental.

There is no reason for a game that looks barely different from the original to struggle to exceed 60fps at 1080p unless it's just **** code.
They have a 2070 bottomed out and they say it should usually be 30fps. A 2070! 30fps?!?
That thing will run the earlier games at over 100 and more at max settings!
