Why does it take them so long to make games these days?

No passion?

They didn't start making it 7 years ago. It was a marketing thing for being bought by Microsoft

Not trying to be passive aggressive, but really why do you even care at this point?

What compels you to keep waiting for the release date or any news about this game, when we all know it's most likely to turn out as a bland meh at best, and an unfinished, broken mess at worst?

Is it because you spent your formative years getting a new entry in each of Bethesda's staples at a consistent pace, and now the industry has become too big and bureaucratic for that to remain a feasible business model?

Bethesda's Todd Howard on The Elder Scrolls VI:

“It’s progressing really well. The majority of the studio’s on VI, but I’ll say this: We always overlap. So, we’re very used to overlapping development. And we have long pre-productions on things so that we feel good about them. And it’s a process. We all wish it went a little bit faster – or a lot faster – but it’s a process that we want to get right.”

If the rumors of the setting are true it will be a real monkey's paw because it's exactly where I would want a game set but exactly too late for any chance of being good.

It's taking so long because Bethesda knows their *** is in the jackpot after Starfail. Once this flops MS will close the studio and pass the IP off to someone else.

What other established studio is there to pass off the IP to? The only other studio that produces high production value 1st person medieval RPG sims out there is Warhose, and Vavra probably wants to make more KCDs or his own brand of fantasy than being made to make TES themed games.

And, you know, as we come back to Elder Scrolls 6 that we're doing now, you know, we're we're coming back to that kind of classic style that that we've missed that we know really, really well. Um, you talked about, you know, tech and things like that. We spent the last, you know, several years bringing Creation Engine 2, which powers Starfield, up to Creation Engine 3. That's going to power Elder Scrolls 6 and beyond.
Toodles.

The more exotic the setting, the worse and lamer it will be. The Morrowind setting magic isn't ever happening again.
High Rock and Hammerfell are at least theoretically doable by the people who made Oblivion or Skyrim.
Of course those people are gone as well so even this moderate task is insurmountable for modern Bethesda.

They recently explained the announcement (non-announcement) all those years ago.
They were talking about Fallout **** You '76 and were going to be talking about Starslop and they didn't want fans to worry it was back-burnered.
(But it clearly is, and is paradoxically also "cooked")
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

If you get Argonia or Elsewheyre (or whatever ****** spelling), you get furfag content **** (surprised they didn't lean in hard on that one for the extra jewgold this time around) or if you get Hammerfell, you just get loads of ******-themed ****/tacked-on quests about muh racism, etc. No one wins (except people with colored hair so they can satisfy their 3XL negro **** phantasies).

You guys are way overestimating how amusingly bad this will be. Unless again there's something in Starfield that I've missed out on Bethesda hasn't been as direct and heavy handed with that sort of social commentary. More likely it's just going to have a bunch of ugly characters and all the companions with be playersexual.
The bigger issues that will make it completely unplayable is that the writing will be really bad in a boring and uninteresting way while the whole thing runs at like 28fps despite having cities probably still smaller than Balmora some how.

Main problem is that it is that I doubit it will have strong appeal factor. Morrowind was cool with the dark elves in weird buildings wearing weird crab shell armor in the volcanic wastes inhabited by weird creatures, etc. Skyrim had cool appeal with vikings wielding engraved weapons to fight cool masked priests and dragons while awesome chanting is happening, and scenic locations with not-Rohan's golden fields, the tall snowy mountains, the autumnal Riften, etc. Bethseda after that has not put out a cool looking game. Fallout 3 is just grey ugly looking wastes. Fallout 4 is brighter colored ruined wastes. Starfield just looks bland.

Oblivion and Fallout 3 are some of the most popular games of all time and are the reason Bethesda is the cultural juggernaut it is now.

I thought Oblivion did not have that much cool appeal, besides the combination of bloom and Jeremy Soule's music which gave it a dreamlike feel. It's just green grass and trees and uninteresting white or grey architecture.
