Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles
The ugly filter is less pronounced than other lazy Squeenix ports. UI looks soulless to me.
This is a port of the PSP/iOS versions, most likely. Looks like a terrible cash grab. And I am a huge, huge fan of the genre and the original.
EDIT: After watching the trailer a few more times and more slowly, I recant my statement about the UI. It's fine. The font for the dialogue as well. But, it releases in September this year so most likely there will be no gameplay improvements like with Tactics Ogre Reborn and from all the trailer shows, it looks to be just a straight port with a dubious "face lift" in terms of the filter for the graphics.
TOR also had a horrible filter, even though this one is less pronounced. This game deserved the SaGa Frontier treatment. Fully remade graphics that look just like the original, not just a ******* filter. I am very disappointed and will not buy this until I can pirate it and see for myself if any gameplay changes truly deserve the money.

The screen shows 19 slots so yeah... probably. Or it could be that they get added after a special requirement is met, like with Ultima and Zodiac which didn't show up as an empty slot until you got to the right Chapter.Shillitron wrote: ↑ June 4th, 2025, 22:44no dark kight on job screen?Cipher wrote: ↑ June 4th, 2025, 22:39
What the current board of corpo suits who have inherited the brand name of "Square" don't want you to know is that you can play this 30 year old game (in which almost all of the staff are no longer working at Square and won't see a cent from rereleases) for free. And with the aesthetics as originally intended.

The smoothing filter in the remaster looks horrendous, might as well just use an emulator
I'm more interested in the Bravely Default port to Switch 2 and whether it ends up on PC. No way I'm buying the console after all their blatant anti consumer stunts, and nu-Square Enix isn’t getting a cent from me. Definitely going the pirate route.

Indeed. And also the mod scene for that version is still alive and kicking! I personally really like the LFT mod by Laggy. I think it is like Vanilla+ not really a super hard difficulty mod but special care was taken to buff stuff that needed it and to make almost all equipment interesting and have value, instead of the boring "number go up" updates.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ June 4th, 2025, 23:38What the current board of corpo suits who have inherited the brand name of "Square" don't want you to know is that you can play this 30 year old game (in which almost all of the staff are no longer working at Square and won't see a cent from rereleases) for free. And, on Duckstation you can make it look even better than this so called "remaster".
Yes. It's the same issue with Tactics Ogre: Reborn. The smoothing here in FFT:IC seems to be a little toned down but honestly its still looks awful. And personally, I don't care for the added voice acting. Didn't care for it in Tactics Ogre and its the same here. That alone does not warrant spending money on it.psychic_dream wrote: ↑ June 4th, 2025, 23:38The smoothing filter in the remaster looks horrendous, might as well just use an emulator

Like I said, it needed and deserved the SaGa Frontier treatment. Full remake of the graphics in a style that makes it equal or at least extremely close to the original. No ******* filters.
Here are some comparisons:
► Show Spoiler
Compare it to the PSP terrible port of FFT, the even more horrendous iOS port and not this. We will see what improvements it has, but on the graphics side it already is a downgrade.
Aaaaand apparently is only coming for the PS5. Not even all platforms. Well, that does it for me I guess. Squeenix is most definitely not getting my money.
EDIT: I jumped the gun. It will be on all platforms. I was wrong here. Mea culpa.

Why not make a new game with the same systems. It would take an intern a year.
I see. Thanks so much. I'll edit my previous post. But, that trailer shows at the end that the enhanced version has "extensive additions and adjustments to the story" which we all know what it means. I am still not expecting this to be good but at least now I can pirate it on PC and play it for myself before making my final judgement.
Well, the same reason they just announced the Mortal Kombat legacy collection!J1M wrote: ↑ June 5th, 2025, 01:28Why not make a new game with the same systems. It would take an intern a year.
Because, why would they? I mean, people bought the Oblivion remaster in droves. People keep buying the SKyrim versions. The Resident Evil 4, the Last of Us 1. People keep buying the same game over and over again. No reason to actually spend effort, time, money and energy into anything else.
Netherrealm just admitted defeat on their newest Mortal Kombat and has announced that they will no longer be supporting the game with more content and updates. And the game is like 1 year old at most. Of course, they niggeri-ified and uglyfied all the women so of course everyone hated it. But's that's the tip of the iceberg.
Everyone on the TRPG circles is creaming their pants at this remaster. I am going to be honest, when I saw the SaGa Frontier remaster, I did creamed my pants but that game had no other version outside of the PSX original and I already talked about and showed how the remaster truly added value and made it worth the purchase.
Tactics Ogre Reborn was a very lazy "remaster" of the PSP remake, but at least it revamped the gameplay completely, so Tactics Ogre has actually 3 versions, the original SNES, the PSP and now Reborn. All three have similar elements but different gameplay and mechanics so at least on that front Reborn earns its keep. I personally like the PSP version with the One Vision mod way better, but Reborn has enough meat on the bone to warrant its existence.
FFT already had the PSP version with dubious improvements outside of the 2 new classes and Balthier's cameo, which I recent because even though I like the character, his class is just Mustadio but better. This version allegedly will have extensive additions and adjustments to the STORY which is something that doesn't inspire confidence knowing Squeenix's track record. But, we'll see.
Quit FFT because the camera sucked a penis and everything took ages to do. Maybe this version will make it playable

Dark knight just had standard job requirement unlocks though?
- Pay 69.99 for some ****** upscale + crappy voice acting.
- Pay nothing for endless mods + custom content emulated PS1 game.
And people wonder why video game companies are losing $$.

Yeah. The ******* normie cattle on Youtube and I am sure everywhere else are creaming their panties because "ZOMG VoIcE aCtInG!!!11!" like it adds something more than redone graphics from the ground up in the same style as the originals. Or new classes and new animations and new abilities/spells.Shillitron wrote: ↑ June 5th, 2025, 16:40Cipher wrote: ↑ June 4th, 2025, 22:50The screen shows 19 slots so yeah... probably. This is why the industry deserves to die. The normie cattle care more for ****** voice acting that adds very little, if at all, to the overall experience but in turn is the most costly and time consuming addition to any game. The game had no voice acting back in 97 and somehow everyone and their mother loved it and is hailed as the best TRPG ever. I don't necessarily agree with that take but that's the street cred the game has earned across the board and they did that with a terrible translation, that still managed to get some great lines, and with no voice acting at all. Somehow, back then we knew that the gameplay in a videogame is what mattered the most.
******* Sony slop moviegames have created entire generations of ******* that want more movie into their videogame instead of more game.

They could of done 2 more acts, added more jobs (which they literally ran out of memory to do on the PSX) fixed calculator being OP ******** and did a couple more secret dungeons..
but no, we get to hear some zoom zoom voice actors ruin a classic rpg story from my childhood.

Saw it on steam and it looked like someone smeared Vaseline on it. No idea why so many jap remasters are like this, is it just a lack of understanding of technology?

5 years ago, I would say they are just lifting filters from emulators straight up. Now, they are leveraging AI upscaling technology. Like with the Lunar remaster collection or this one. It still looks bad because the pixels are smeared. They are not recreated accurately but with a higher pixel count so the forms blend together like they used to when being displayed in the screens they were designed for (CRT TVs). They could do that but that requires actual work and actual talent.
Better to just shove it down the throat of an upscaling AI and maaaaaaaybe do some clean up afterwards by paying some outsourcing slaves off-shore. Maybe. The worst thing is that even if you emulate this game and just upscale the resolution to 1080, yes the sprites look pixelated but the details still show perfectly fine and while its considerably worst than looking at them through a CRT TV, it looks considerably better than this smudged filters.
But people don't care. They see a chance to pay money to feel like a kid again and they will bend over backwards to justify the purchase. The only reason SaGa Frontier got properly remade graphics from the ground up and Romancing SaGa 2 got a straight up remake with full 3D models is because Akitoshi Kawazu the creator of the SaGa series, climbed up the corporate ladder and eventually served on the board of directors at Squeenix. IIRC, he is no longer part of the board of directors but he has some serious pull with the Top Brass at Squeenix. He refuses to make the SaGa series cash grabs. Even the low end remasters get tons of added content, specially restored cut content.
Compare to Final Fantasy, the flagship series, which gets the laziest and most broken remasters on PC. This is just the next in line. They only broke bank with VII because, and I've said this many times here, FFVII remake was their "break in case of emergency". They know they have to pull out all the stops as the success of FFVII Remake trilogy its a make or break moment for Squeenix. Outside of that is just lazy ****.
And some people are still hopeful and are clamoring for an FFIX remake, not understanding that it will be a botched mess at best, since Sakaguchi was the one that cared the most about that game and he's long gone.
Why put effort in when weebs will buy any slop you put out because it's made in Japan?rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ June 6th, 2025, 06:35Saw it on steam and it looked like someone smeared Vaseline on it. No idea why so many jap remasters are like this, is it just a lack of understanding of technology?
I loved the gameplay of FFT, but I hated the story. No idea why people enjoyed it.
The first time I beat it (as a kid) I didn't really pay attention to story at all. The second time, I paid attention to it and almost stopped playing 10 hours in. Never seen such whiny simp faggotry in my life (I have, but still). Hated Delita, hated Ramza, hated Agrias, hated everyone except Cid and maybe Elmdor because he was actually a cool vampire.
Bunch of crying childish little shits, Cid should have killed them all and taken the throne for himself

This seems like it's just a port of the psp version with no real changes other than a smoothing filter. Still excited to finally get a PC version though. Hopefully it will be easier to mod than the PS1 version was. I tried to mod it once and the mod tools made no sense to me
