it seems musk decided to make a good decision finally, and is now opening a lab to research ai in games

whether this will be intelligent stuff as in ai toward simulation running or another braindead take on competitive ai remains to be seen, let's hope it is not another lame chess solver

regardless, pointing the recent ai progress to make sims interesting again is the right decision

what will come remains to be seen

Sounds like it's just googling info or looking at an event log and summarizing it.

AI would be cool to enhance the behavior of enemies and friendly NPCs. They could react and adapt better into what is going on and specially in big games it could add to dialogue, so instead of having the same 5 to 10 lines, the NPC could use a language model to create new dialogue that is consistent with what's going on.

There was a mod that did this for Mount and Blade but it was in its infancy and I never followed it to see what came of it but I think those would be good applications for AI tools in videogames. Imagine being able to actually negotiate peace terms with the warring enemy faction instead of picking from a handful of dialogue prompts. Actual diplomacy instead of a barebones "reputation" system. The same would go for stuff like the karma systems in videogames as well as law and crime systems. No more "everyone knows this is stolen" or that you are a criminal, but an actual system that makes it so only the NPCs that know about your reputation would react accordingly and everyone else would treat you as a stranger.
