True epic badassery in video games

Post by Lutte »

Post your "these sections truly made me feel epic" here. It needs to be real time action games, all genres welcome, but don't come talk about epic linking to some isometric **** or turn based game in there!

I'll start off with shmups: fight off the earth alien invasion in Eschatos, annihilate motherships and armies of greys!

Be part of a large intergalactic war in Silpheed (Mega-CD version)!

Put an end to the whale threat once and for all in G-Darius!

Now, for some non shmup content, the aptly named.. Goliath in Devil May Cry 5 :

You can't spell epic without spelling Monster Hunter:

Or a From game:

The score and the visuals through that level does an excellent job of bringing what would otherwise be a very boring level to completely new heights.

Nothing can ever beat the way Ace Combat games make you feel.

Not by any stretch. What better way to cap off the game about giant enemy waves than by going balls deep into exactly that? The openness and lack of things to hide behind are daunting, and the enemy waves escalate so you know it's building up to something. Notice hoe it gives you powerups which would be godsends in any other level, but here you're made to sweat bullets even with screen nukes, invincibility, and cannonballs at every turn.

I do agree the visuals and music are epic.

The party shot before fighting Grigori in Dragon's Dogma hit different the first time I did it. Also, one of the best dragon fights in a game.

The end of Dragon Age Origins was pretty cool.

Fighting up the side of the Citadel in Mass Effect was amazing.

First alien vault in Mass Effect Andromeda is visually striking. Really felt like you were trespassing somewhere humans weren't meant to be.

I do wonder what BioWare games would be like if they put that much effort into half a dozen more places in their games.

Keeping with the spirit of the OP, I found this whole game amazing from start to finish. You don't even need to pick a specific excerpt:

Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana had some banger tracks even in tutorial areas or when casually walking on the beach, but best were reserved for when fighting bosses.
Example:

Transition to final boss is epic:

Pretty much all of Prototype fits the definition especially once you have a handful of upgrades. Leaping as high as a building and elbow dropping tanks never got old.

Saints Row 4's entire intro in particular felt epic. Climbing a nuclear missile in mid air while Aerosmith is blasting was peak.

The destructible environment in Red Faction Guerilla provided a lot of badass moments especially in multiplayer where you could drop a building on someone and kill them.

This is cheating because Adol is just a pure unfiltered badass throughout every one of his games
