What the hell is TLP?

Time Locked Progression means that the server starts with original content and after a certain amount of time the next expansion pack becomes available. Currently Oakwynd just got Luclin. Planes of Power is due two months later, some time in January. It's FUN!

Fun? But modern EQ...

Is slightly ******, but not as ****** as you think it is. Most of the modern features are locked behind era progression which means no out of combat regen, no mercenaries, none of that crap until the appropriate expansion is unlocked which won't be for awhile yet so there's still lots of sitting around doing sweet FA just like you remember it. Our fearless leader @rusty_shackleford sat in Firiona Vie for over nine hours waiting for a pirate to spawn and it never did so if staring at a wall for eight hours is your ideal EQ experience look no further than Oakwynd.

Explore dungeons? The good news is that since most people are in Luclin (which just unlocked) a lot of the world is open and available and even if the place gets crowded we have something now called instances, when the zone gets too full a new copy is automatically created, thereby eliminating traffic jams, raid disputes, and ensuring that a good time can be had by all. The other day I wound up in Dreadlands 19, that means that the zone is still so popular for leveling that the server had to break off 19 separate instances of it to meet demand, imagine if all those people were crammed into one place, you'd never get anything done.

But in order to explore dungeons we need more bros, that's where you come in, you could be the key party member we need to make our time on Oakwynd the most enjoyable it can possibly be. We currently have a level 44 shaman (me), a 39 pally with an ANONYMOUS druid box (Rusty) and a level 37 monk (@Kalarion ) that means all we need is a few more bros and we could run this town! With our amazing heals and buffs you'll be up to our level in no time and out killing monsters and getting phat lewtz with the coolest people on the HQ. So what are you waiting for? No other MMO lets you get shrunk down and squeeze through the metal grate of a prison cell door. WoW caused the genre to become entirely gamified and obsessed with numbers.

We really need a cc of some kind, even if it's just reliable snare. We have every other base covered. Preferably an enchanter or bard, but in a pinch we could probably make do with ranger, druid, necro.

I suggest turning this option("Join General Channels") off:


Log out of EQ, go to your EQ directory, open the file UI_CHARNAME_oakwynd.ini
Find the key named "ChannelAutoJoin", if it doesn't exist create it under the "[ChatManager]" section, place this(or similar) in it:

ChannelAutoJoin=hqfrens,General,General1,General2,General3,General4,Antonica,Odus,Faydwer,Kunark,Velious,Luclin

Otherwise, the numbers for your channels will always get screwed up. The builtin channels always join first, and the continent related ones change as you move around between zones.

Helpful tips:

ctrl+shift clicking an item will open the bazaar window and search for it
alt+shift clicking an item will open the barter window and search for it
shift+click during an action involving a stack of items uses the whole stack
ctrl+click during an action involving a stack of items uses a single item

Create a social macro that contains '/autoinv', put it on your hotbar. Bind that key to something, I use 'U'. When you have an item on your cursor, place that button to automatically place it in your inventory.


Things you should bind that aren't bound by default, along with my binding:
Stop Action - z - This will interrupt any macro or spellcast.
Run/walk - , - this is bound to r by default iirc, put something more useful on that key.
Disband - - This is bound to ctrl+d by default, I have it unbound. I sometimes accidentally hit it and left my group.
Strafe left/Strafe right - A/D - WSAD
Target myself - - Unbind this to force yourself to not use it. Read the next line.
Toggle target and myself - Mouse button 5(pinky) - Far more useful than a button that just targets yourself, you can quickly swap between your target and yourself. I regularly use this for healing and buffing.
Cycle through nearest NPCs - Tab - tab targeting, duh.
Toggle bags - B - Can't remember if this is 'B' by default. You probably want it to be 'B'.
Toggle bank bags - Shift+B - Same deal


Go to the 'Chat' section and make sure the spam filter is shown, the in-game spam filter sucks and regularly marks non-spam as spam:



Camera:
Just scroll out from the first person view. This game has like 8 camera modes and 7 of them are complete junk. There's also "user cameras"(???), I don't know anything about them.

Press ALT+j to open your NPC journal, click the button to enable it. Now all conversations with NPCs will be recorded.

The main difference is the client is from 2023 instead of 2001, which brings a lot of niceties that don't exist in the older client.

Did they ever do anything with the glowing black stone? That always had a ton of hints that it was part of a quest, but no one ever figured it out. I assume the quest was never finished.
