I think they should have allowed you to grind out XP or something else at max level so that you eventually unlocked all of the talents. It should have been a levelling feature, not a means of character identity.
If that was the goal, then they failed miserably. I don't think there's any meaningful APM changes in player choices. Though the rate of play increased sharply over the years. I think they should just design things clearly: rogue is the button masher class and the paladin is the auto-attack class, for example. Made one when it came out. It is similar to FF14 housing in that you have to buy preset decor items and rearrange them/clip them together to make a build, though unlike FF14 you can resize, free move, and rotate the pieces. You don't have to do the annoying FF14 thing of tediously floating up the decor items. My main gripe with WoW housing is how expensive it is to decorate. Decor items start at 3k per pop on the AH and rapidly getting to 10k+. In a game where it takes serious play over at least a week or so to get 100k+. FF14 in contrast, your average AH decor items ranges from 20k to 200k but the game showers you in gil so that you can make a million gil in about a week of serious play, so it's not that bad.
A lot of WoW decor is locked behind rep grinds and completion of extremely lengthy questlines.
Another good feature that WoW's housing system has is the ability to place different rooms. You can place a small room, an octagonal room, a corridor, a tall vertical room, etc. Unfortunately, the larger rooms - and the room that looks like an outdoor environment - is timegated behind housing exp, which you can only get 2,000 of per month. So it would take several months before I'd be able to unlock the large interir room or the outside looking room to build a grandiose castle for my pandaren character (large throne room, and a large courtyard).

Professions require a lot of investment to get started in, and then the actual act of figuring out what to sell and then procuring the mats for it requires having to do spreadsheeting and fiddling with esoteric AH addons and websites. It's too much work, and if I really need gold then I would rather just buy WoW tokens since that is far more time efficient.

The prices already bottomed out and have gone back up a couple thousand gold. At launch, an Elder's Rise rug costed 10k. After trying the free weekend I don't think I can motivate myself to play this again. It feels like groundhog day or something. Just a new group of developers photocopying what the last group did.

IIRC you had to be level 84 or 85 to get the quest that takes you there and makes the portal clickable. It was not until the portal room that was added in the BFA patches that you could click on a portal and go to any continent/planet without having previously unlocked it via story progression.
