MGS is a Tactical Espionage Action series with bossfights, puzzles, a ridiculous amount of toys in the sandbox for approaching situations, and big shooty sections. Splinter Cell barely had functional combat until the games started to ******* suck and here's why that's a good thing!
Yeah, Splinter Cell shouldn't even be about combat. If you're in a gunfight, you've failed already. It's purely about stealth.
But my impression of MGS is that it's more about the "cinematic gaming" cancer than it is about stealth. Thus, all the over the top giant mechs and jumping on rockets and magic powers. Kojimbo's penchant for paying movie celebrities to hang out with him does nothing to disprove that either.

You have no idea. I 100% the game and had to put up with so many unskippable cutscenes and "you must watch the character slowly open the door" animation moments.
I'm just stating the facts.

PoOps letting you bring 4 ****** and switching between them was so much better than V only letting you control one guy. In what circumstance am I not bringing the main character of the game?

I was always a fan of The Twin Snakes but seeing as it is not on the list, I'll take the original one, though MGS3 and 2 are close.

Camo swapping on the fly. Apparently your outfits can get ripped and permanently(?) damaged.

Remembering the time people were outraged when some ****** band was brought in to play the Rising OST at an event and completely ruined all of the songs by playing and singing terribly. Then it turned out it was the actual band who created them, they're just awful live.

**** me, it's as bad as that Gorillaz Dare live performance. It almost wraps around to being so bad that it's funny.

I've only played 1 through 4 and VR Missions. Are any of the other games actually worth checking out? I played them all on or near release so It's now been eons since I've touched the series aside from a couple obligatory MGS1 replays over the years.

Out of 1-4, 1 is the GOAT

I wouldn't say every way. It becomes an even closer match if you play MGS3 with the awful original camera.

My first MGS experience was renting the original Snake Eater and being unable to get past Sokolov

I like how Big Boss is accused of using child soldiers but that never actually happens in a single game. He takes in war orphans and just give them an education then when they become adults they can join his army if they want. Oh God the humanity I'm going insane!
