I genuinely don't understand this obsession that modern game devs have for "cozy farm simulators". As if there aren't enough Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley rip-offs flooding the game market already.

And with this the total number of devs being laid off by the end of January 2025 is circa 600.

Quite a good haul if I say so. Not as good as January of 2024, but I have high hopes that Ubisoft will help pad the year out substantially.
Had no idea who they were, so I looked up what they worked on. Fae Farm, cozy farm sim slop with ****** and **** fairies.

Stardew Valley made a billion dollars. Prior to that, the genre was only seeing progressively lower quality and lower effort Harvest Moon sequels.

I can answer that!
Female "game" streamers (and some soy nu-male ones) are always looking for the next thing for their audience of like-minded NPCs.

1. They are easy to make and don't require a lot of talent. Great for studios who only care about DEI.
2. Mainly women make these games. These are the types of games that women primary play and tend to make. Safe, inoffensive, coddling mush. One of the big reasons why the fantasy genre has been deviled as bad as it has is because of women and their need to make everything feel like a daycare or high school prom. Safe, cozy, diverse, *****, romance and female empowerment. It is infantile and I for one am sick of it.

A repeat of all the World of Warcraft and Call of Duty "killers" basically.

Dumbfuck MBA sees a game like Stardew Valley making shitloads of money, basically turning the single developer into one of the richest game developers overnight, and thinks they can tap into that market too, not realizing that Stardew Valley is popular because the creator found a niche that was being ignored and delivered a quality product.

You can apply the same logic to all the other "killers":
  • you need to pay more money for a copy of the game you're already playing
  • you have to learn how to play this new game - especially important if the game has a competitive scene
  • all your friends are already playing the old game and you would need to convince them to switch over somehow
  • the older, more established game has probably much more content
  • it's mechanically tighter because the developers had more time to iterate and fix the issues
MBA's don't understand how normal humans think - they assume that if they deliver inferior trash that sorta looks like the popular product, and market it more, people will simply just flock to it and they'll be rolling in the cash.

And they kept this **** up for 20 years without ever learning it doesn't work.

Is this a case where they stretch the definition of game dev to support staff like HR, Community Managers, and other useless make-work jobs?

Sure they did.
And why not?
Look at that picture. They've sure stretched the definition of "women".

In another thread I mentioned that EA was doing some restructuring over at BioWare, but it is now becoming clear that the shoah is real. Seems that the writing department is bearing the brunt of the purge for now.

Injun LARPing ***** wants an editor role.
What that really means is that she's not very creative and kinda lazy, so really wants to take other's work and make sure it conforms to her likes and ideology better.

She wants an editor role because that was her role at Bioware.

Chris Avellone has a lot of strong feelings about why he felt Obsidian really needed an editor.

Only way it could have been improved was if they never made it

"Why did she want to be an editor in the first place instead of a full creative?" is the point you're missing here.

Giving him another 6-12 months before he comes out as transgender and transition into the beautiful butterfly that he really is. He might as well at this point. He is a failure of man and a writer. The only way for him to save his career is to become a ******.

Wannabe ****** can always move to their beloved Gaza and tell the Muslims who run that place how hard they "fought" for their freedom against Israel, surely they will be treated like royalty there.
