The Dragon's Dogma 2 Thread
The gay part is partly true, but the ones seen engaging on that stuff - mainly the protagonist and antagonist during their backstories - weren't shown enjoying it, like at all.
And the tone shift at the middle of the manga is true, more specifically when the in-story world "transformed" and Guts went from traveling by himself to forming a small party with companions. The story remained pretty dark, but it was a bit less "gritty" from that point on since arcane magic and more mystical stuffs were introduced.
No idea about Miura and the pedo game though.

I hate what dark souls became. I enjoyed demon and dark souls but it's a grim dark edgy world that is depressing to play. I'd rather play a fun upbeat game.Statesman wrote: ↑ September 10th, 2024, 00:58There is no need to get so worked up about someone not wanting to play the same slop (with a few name changes) over and over.Lhynn wrote: ↑ September 9th, 2024, 20:01Did you just have a stroke?Statesman wrote: ↑ September 4th, 2024, 16:59I'm so tired of every souls game having a "bleak, dead, empty" world. I think Dark Souls pulls off the atmosphere very well. It also can’t be said that it’s cheerless, especially with how it interacts with multiplayer/the community.Nooneatall wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 16:10I hate what dark souls became. It is bizarre and quite interesting to see how someone that can make such a story as Berserk then plays something that is anything but that, it is fascinating. The art-style from the cover for the game on Wikipedia is enough to discourage me from reading further into it, but thank you for the info!

So I gathered, but I am usually a bit turned away when I see a certain type of art-style. Maybe because I am older, but it just feels weird to interact with certain characters that are kids or look like kids more than is necessary to find their parents or bring them to the next safe village to drop them off.Finarfin wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 17:18You basically pick an potential idol you like and then help her become a Top-Idol.DagothGeas5 wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 17:15I keep reading the name as Idolmonster XDFinarfin wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 16:03

Grimdark supposes the world was always an evil place, not that it was corrupted or came under attack, and that all characters are essentially bad. Its the English combining spaghetti westerns with fantasy and scifi.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 07:27noUltraFan123 wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 06:22and this very same manga was the grandfather of the grimdark fantasy genre.
to be clear, a lot of sword of sorcery is 'grimdark'. Just off the top of my head, I know things like The Black Company & Kane predate berserk. Almost certain you could trace it to at least the Gothic fiction of the 18th century tho
So if you had to pick one, Vergil or Astarion?Vergil wrote: ↑ September 3rd, 2024, 13:03Vergil will never get his own game now....Roguey wrote: ↑ September 3rd, 2024, 01:29Just as well, 5 felt like a definitive ending.Vergil wrote: ↑ September 3rd, 2024, 00:21Devil May Cry is dead it's so ******* over the barrel is in my mouth I'm pulling the ******* trigger![]()

Check this if you want an overview or this if you want a more detailed explanation but, long story short, Miura said on an interview that he played the first Idolmaster game and his best friend, Kouji Mori (the guy who is now continuing Berserk), mentioned Miura's fascination with fan-made videos about the game back in a 2009 Young Animal comment. Fans extrapolated that "his Idolmaster addiction" was causing the hiatus(es) and then turned it into a meme.UltraFan123 wrote: ↑ September 13th, 2024, 14:35The gay part is partly true, but the ones seen engaging on that stuff - mainly the protagonist and antagonist during their backstories - weren't shown enjoying it, like at all.

Those two links lead to what are effectively a fact-checker and a proto-redditor who worships Miura. This isn't even an argument:
Typical redditor behavior. Also the hiatuses kept happening for years after this ****** wrote that post and the quality of the manga kept going down.
"Miura is totally working hard and not gooning to the Idolmaster because Berserk is still awesome and even if he's a bit slower than he used to be he's still working extremely hard and if he takes months-long breaks that doesn't mean he's lazy and even if you don't see him working he's totally working right now if you disagree you're spreading disinformation"From all this, it can be inferred that Miura's taking all the time he needs to make sure what's to come in Berserk is awesome. The current events are unprecedented in scale as well as in importance in the story, so it'd make perfect sense. But it's also possible that he's working at a slower pace than he used to. As you know he's had health problems due to overworking several years ago, so I could understand the desire to enjoy life a bit. Most likely it's a bit of both. What's important though is that he IS obviously still working on Berserk. There is a reason we speak of "breaks in the prepublication of the series" and not of "vacations". That is because Miura works during the breaks like he does the rest of the time. Remember this if you forget everything else: regardless of whether an episode of Berserk is present in the next issue of Young Animal or not, Miura is working on the series.

Berserk is incredibly mid and it's praise is fueled almost entirely by nostalgia. If you were not an edgy teen when you started reading it when the sex/violence was naughty and interesting you wouldn't care for it.

I prefer that as well, just not when "colorful" = juvenile. Like Fortnite or Overwatch. The best stories are always colorful, with the darkness lying under the surface. Like LOTR/Hobbit. Or on the flipside, a grimdark world where you, as the protagonist, work to restore it to life. The problem with a game like Dark Souls, is that nothing you do ultimately matters. The world will always remain grimdark and hopeless because reasons. Even Demon's Souls was a lot more hopeful, since you ultimately end the eldritch threat and the world has a chance to rebuild itself in time.
Technically, it does. Falling a victim to propaganda just means you prolong the Age of Fire like a ******. Not falling victim to propaganda ushers in the Age of Dark, which makes man rise.KnightoftheWind wrote: ↑ September 14th, 2024, 05:57The problem with a game like Dark Souls, is that nothing you do ultimately matters.
You don't really see the consequences of your actions on a micro level post-end, but no RPG is perfect.
(although even there you can argue that on a micro level, you can see the ending of every character's storyline, if you care to)

I agree about the latter part, but Golden Age is pretty amazing imho. The art itself is also way above average and quite stunning at times. It ultimately suffers from modern nihilism like most modern fantasy though. The refusal and/or incapability of clearly drawing a line between good and evil, heroes and vilains makes it dilute itself more and more as the story fails to find any true end goal despite more shocking gore and sex.
