I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?
This is what I've been doing a lot, and I'm too old to even be a Boomer, so it's certainly not a "Zoomer" thing. The fact of the matter is that most modern "games" are barely even games, but just a series of motions where you rubberstamp a decision the developers have already made for you, and there is nothing for the player to really DO.Unhelpful Contrarian wrote: β April 30th, 2025, 10:27If people can get the same experience of watching the cutscenes on YouTube instead of playing the game you failed as interactive medium.
Itβs speaks volumes more on the game then the actual zoomers.

No. However, there is a mod that makes parrying and dodging easier.Former Redditor wrote: β May 2nd, 2025, 02:23Are there mods yet to remove manual dodge/parry/QTE?

There's no way to 'fix' the dodging mechanic

What's wrong with the dodging mechanic? Also not a fan of it, don't play any souls game and combat is quite boring here as well. But...it works as intended?

Probably not that much longer

Setting, story, writing, presentation all good. But combat and char system pretty boring. Still this could be GOTY material, which is not saying much obv.

There you go. Don't ever let anyone tell you this game sucks. Many people are saying this is the best JRPG to come out in 20 years. It was so good its already in talks to get a ******* movie! The gaming industry has been officially saved, everyone. We did it, Reddit! Turn-based games are BACK, baby!
Everything about this game is pretentious, they spent most of their budget on the voice actors and probably funding their ****** movie.
The crowds in the early intro dont move around, hell they dont even stand correctly. I guarantee you their initial idea was probably to make a action game (like most western studios do), and then they probably decided they dont have the talent or the budget to do all that work so they stuck to muh "JRPG". Everything from the hiring of famous voice actors, announcing a movie before anybody has even played the game to the excessive overproduced visual design comparable to one of those UE5 demos stinks of trend chasing and an appeal to the normie movie game swallowing subhuman crowd.
But hey good looking chicks in the game and a male protagonist so must be based
Subhumans just hate pretentious when its not giftwrapped, and it seems that this piece of turd is gift wrapped to perfection.

Never becoming a fan of that souls system, it doesn't even feel rewarding once you have figured out the timing if needed. But ****, after totally controlling the Paintress a massive FU gatcha and you are cursed/dead within 2 rounds. If a game needs that to get you to lose an encounter, they ****** up.

89k vs 121k
I was told this game was a huge hit? BG3 has 800k all time peak player
Decided to give a try. Early impressions (I am still looking for Maelle):
- Game is very, very pretty. The grass/rocks/waterfalls are generic, but they keep adding enough unique elements that it doesn't look like a tech demo. Runs smooth in 4K.
- Soundtrack kicks *** and the theme is stuck in my head. More games should use pianos.
- Dodge/parry was off-putting at first, but I practiced a bit against Maelle in the tutorial and eventually got a feel for it. Then later I found the first 'boss' (Chromatic Lancelier) and got to retry it a half-dozen times because it OHK if it landed any attack. Still, it didn't feel unfair, the animations are consistent. The next boss (Eveque, or whatever it is in english) was much easier and I parried a ton of his attacks first try, we'll see if that keeps up.
- On that note, I can't remember the last time I played a RPG that actually allowed you to grind, it's super offputting (I wasn't joking when I said this is literally my first JRPG ever.) But hopefully that's something that wonΒ΄t be required, even for optional bosses. How long would it have taken to grind up enough stats that the Chromatic Lancelier didn't one-shot me?
- Again on the dodge: I think it was a strange design choice to have an on-screen cue for attack QTEs but not for defensive QTEs. Seems like it should have been both or neither (paradoxically, you'll see your own attacks a lot more often, so it should be easier to learn the timing).
- Curious to recruit more people and see if I can unlock more interesting powers/intricate combos that way, because if feels like a lot of upgrades are 'number go up' busywork. I picked up a couple of passives that hint at the potential for cross-party synergy (char1 sets burning, char2 gets bonus from burning, stuff like that), hopefully they are competitive.
- Points for making consumables rechargeable to avoid hoarding. A point off for not making that at all clear in the UI or tutorial, unless I missed it.
- Narrative side, it seems a bit clumsy. The prologue was perfect, but then it immediately switched to grimdark, but then it also immediately reveals that we can communicate with the Nevrons? I can't tell if these guys are intended to be a group of competent adventurers or a bunch of civilians thrown to the slaughter, like Emma suggested.
- Gustave really, really looks like Robert Pattinson.
- Had a laugh when The Frenchest Woman Ever gifted The Frenchest Man Ever a nice suit for him to wear, in a very romantic moment, and it turned out to be a pseudo-hogwarts JRPG protagonist robe that clashed horribly with the rest of the Belle Epoque prologue.

I wrapped up the second act and following plot stuff and wow that story sure went nowhere. They really squandered what was an amazing setting and premise on the most inane **** possible. I had reserved judgment on the protagonist swap, but the judgment is now in and it really detracted from the game. The replacement is just a generic Game of Thrones "mysterious adventurer who knows more than he's letting on" archetype who doesn't have a single good line the whole game.
After the strong opening, I was willing to indulge the stereotypical "native tribe" chapter that has destroyed the plot momentum in so many JRPGs, but here unfortunately the momentum never came back. Every other scene is just characters cryptically dancing around what the real plot of the game is long after the player has basically figured it out, all building up to a big exposition dump where you get told what you've known for more than 10-15 hours.
It doesn't help that you can unlock the best abilities pretty early if you run straight for them on the skill tree, so there is not that much change or growth for the combat during the back half of the game.

the prologue (and narrative) was a weeb's wet dream without ******** oppai lolis, but with familiar "nobody ******* asked for" dramatic speeches, camera angles, isekai-style fights and horrid pacing. they also executed the portrayal of impending doom poorly, all i saw was 100000000 times romanticized Edwardian era/Romanian/Victorian ******** (i'm looking at you Bloodborn *****) with glitter, baguettes and roses, while characters not giving a single **** about disappearing from this world. Robert Pattinson face was even more off-putting than the fact of painfully clean Frenchies with teenage superpowers running ****-stained fractured streets ofDemonic Fate wrote: β May 4th, 2025, 01:56- Narrative side, it seems a bit clumsy. It is a huge hit, BG3 being an extreme outlier doesn't change that. There's nothing even remotely comparable about the two anyway, it's like saying BG3 wasn't a hit because Wukong hit 2.4 million. Also it's at a new all time peak at the time of this post of 135k, which means it's still going up 10+ days after release even after people have finished the gameKOS-MOS wrote: β May 3rd, 2025, 20:0389k vs 121k

Failguard started development in 2015 immediately after Inquisition. Sandfall Interactive was founded in 2020.

Let's detach the dork souls faggotry inserted in this JRPG. Did you really liked the story? Because that's one of the worst aspects of the game.
