Are pins on the map visible to all or are they just for the player?

PSA I just discovered you can find buried treasure using a pickaxe to dig into the ground. Those stone circles you see in the meadow biome are marked spots

For the map, make sure you have visible to other players on and cartography table selected. If you don't see the table as an option, head north from spawn until you reach the coast, then head west. You should come across some player built buildings. The table is inside

Have you ever played minecraft? If you enjoyed minecraft then yes Valheim is good. However just like mincraft it takes tens of hours of investment to really get into the game, and just like minecraft it can be mercilessly punishing. I'm currently building my 3rd Karve (tier 2 ship) to go and attempt to recover my corpse full of strong equipment from a bloodthirsty "Deathsquito" that can 2 shot me.

I have been drowning and getting killed pretty hard, I can't efficiently use the chat on steamdeck, and I can only describe my crafting as ******, but I am punching a lot of trees and I'm going to build a gym to gooder up my white hero.
I was disappointed to learn punching trees deals damage but does not train the punching skill. This is because of balancefagging, as woodcutting is also a skill.

Is this the kind of game that you can drop in and play for 15 minutes every once in a while or do you need to commit to a long session to do anything?

Once you get a base setup you can do short sessions for crafting/cooking, but exploring/exploiting/exterminating/building will all take hours. Good weekend activity.

The raft is mostly for river travel, not recommended for oceans. The karve and longboat is for long voyages, they even have cargo holds for ore/loot.

Minecraft is a slow game at first, it will take you about 10 hrs to start. Once you have a base, you can do whatever for as long as you want and still have fun, like Boontaker said.

Your home does require some maintenance because the structural material degrades over time, especially if it’s made of wood.

You can protect against this by making sure your wood structures (walls/floors) have the "sheltered" buff by having thatch overhead. This protects the wood from deterioration. There are some other tricks but I don't know them.
