And nice OST.
Farm life games
ONI has an ugliness that is characteristic of Splat-era Nickelodeon cartoons. It's a boomer aesthetic I find unappealing.DemoGraph wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2026, 21:16ONI has a consistent style, coherent palette, etc. Yes, the drawing style is off-putting, but it was supposed to be this way. It's a game about clones ******** themselves in cold vastness of space.
SV is just clumsy.
The only exception I could find is Pony Ranch (or Farm World on Steam), which is basically a Euro Zoo Tycoon but it's farming instead. I find it to be pretty fun for like a few hours, although it's way too easy and short for adults (the campaign mode can be beaten in like 5-6 hours if you know what you are doing).

Just finished the first Harvest Moon on snes (had to force myself to play through it), and it felt like an unpaid job where you have to babysit literally everything, every ******* day. And things seem to be the same for every other farming game.

So instead of playing weeb slice-of-life sims, we have the alternative that's literally just a second job. Might as well be applying for a part time retail job since at least it pays.
Found this retro game called SimFarm (1993); I'm quite surprised that I've never heard it before since it seems to be the first farming game ever, even earlier than the original Harvest Moon. Looks okay-ish for what it is, although it only has a freeplay mode with no objective.

Have you considered something like Factorio? Unsure exactly what you're looking for here but based on what you've criticized perhaps it's closest to what you're looking for in these games?

Not a fan of sandbox games, I prefer something with a main plot, objectives and a defined ending but yeah, I'm looking for something more of a tycoon than detailed farming life.

You crash-land on a planet and have to get off.I prefer something with a main plot
Gather resources to build a rocket from scratch. Building the thing is no easy task, requiring you to figure out everything, especially automation. If you land on a planet with hostile creatures, there's also the mechanic of defending your base from them.objectives
The game ends when you get off the planet. There's an expansion that allows you to colonize other planets to build a space station.defined ending
To build a ship that has enough damage output to dig through local asteroid belt.
If you want to farm without babysitting your farm, you might be looking for a colony builder so you have minions to farm for you. I don't know of any that do farming especially well, though.Tinky Winky wrote: ↑ April 21st, 2026, 13:13Is there a farming game that's NOT a clone of Harvest Moon? I guess there's Citadelum if you want a city builder where micromanaging how many onions you're producing for the nobles is important. First time I've ever seen a capacity slider be useful outside of strict upkeep concerns.
Could also look into Satisfactory or the like. It's an automation chaining simulator similar to Factorio, but first person and entirely without pressure (I guess aliens will chew on you if you get super close). That might be too sandboxy for your tastes, but most of what you're doing is building mandated parts to feed into the space elevator to access the next tier of things that need to be fed into the space elevator.
The SimWhatever games were Ur-Examples of a lot of stuff. Most of them never got their own genres or only kinda did, like SimEarth being a god game / terraformer thing, but they were routinely pioneering cool new concepts.Tinky Winky wrote: ↑ April 21st, 2026, 13:45Found this retro game called SimFarm (1993); I'm quite surprised that I've never heard it before since it seems to be the first farming game ever, even earlier than the original Harvest Moon. Sure, that. I've done multiple runs but haven't gotten to the expansion. Sad.

Another great is Dyson Sphere Program.
Obviously, the lasers shoot out the tips of the symbol, so the Jewish one would win because it has six lasers while the nazi one only has four.Norfleet wrote: ↑ April 25th, 2026, 04:16I'm picturing the opposed Jew Dyson Sphere which does battle against the Nazi one with Jewish Space Lazors.
German engineering vs ***** skimping on the budget, I'm going with the underdog here.Stack of Turtles wrote: ↑ April 25th, 2026, 04:38Obviously, the lasers shoot out the tips of the symbol, so the Jewish one would win because it has six lasers while the nazi one only has four.Norfleet wrote: ↑ April 25th, 2026, 04:16I'm picturing the opposed Jew Dyson Sphere which does battle against the Nazi one with Jewish Space Lazors.
