ah yes.

Devs: lets find a way to waste peoples time so numbers in steam stay up longer
Rusty: muh emmeschyon
"waste peoples time" is subjective and arbitrary therefore every game should just say "you win!" after pressing start

It's not padding, it adds to the believability of the world. It's no different than the NPCs actually doing things rather than standing around lifeless.

the result will be the same the in one version i have it quick in the other i do a lot of senseless walking around.

npc standing around is the preferable way thats how most of the classics handled it thats how many good games handle it today.

did you find it fun in original outcast to talk to a bunch of npcs everytime you look for someone until you finally found the right one?

I never played outcast, but I have played games where you have to do that and yeah, it's fun. It sounds like you just want a boss rush where the game hurries up and drives you to the CONTENT.

the fun parts of rpgs are: Fighting, looting, leveling/char building

what kind of tism do you need to find it fun to walk through several npcs and check the numbers in their tables?

That is a thing so boring people usually get paid to do this.
Money is a resource in every game, and how well you manage it is intrinsically linked with how fast or slow your character building is. Do you find slow progression fun? Well if not, you better optimize your profits.
What kind of 'tism do you need to find fun in opening a corpse's loot table and taking out materials? People usually get paid to do that! - Looting
Oh, it seems like the above is also a core aspect of resource aggregation. Taking the spoils of your labor - Fighting

All of the above contribute to the gameplay loop and character progression, which should be fun. Forgoing any one of them makes for a shallower experience.

What I will agree, in general, is that it shouldn't be needlessly time-consuming. As per your example of walking through several NPCs' stores. There shouldn't be so many that the player feels like he's seeing the same seller with the same rates and same inventory but with a different name.

It is padding when you have to go kill increasing numbers of random monster hordes just to get them to sell an ever increasing amount of crappy items.
"Want me to sell you a rusty knife? kill 100 scavengers and I might consider you worth the trust."
ok so the random monsters are an issue but the whole other camp that will sacrifice you to a dark entity isn't got it.

rusty take yourself out of my quote, it was supposed to be for mordred, you were a casualty of friendly fire or something.

what has that to do with hurring up and driving through content?

but as rand just stated your guys tism is kicking in and you are now in defending stupidity to the blood mode. i will no longer discuss that opening tables and senseless walking around everytime you wanna talk to someone aint fun.

and just so you know og outcast didn't even have nametags and many of them looked the same. that resuls in even more senseless walking aroung. you guys would love that.

If all you enjoy is killing and looting, there are lots of games already for you. Here's one

all of this is timewasting idiots and autists defend with "muh emersion" so it fits perfectly well.

There's a big difference between simulating game systems vs showing an animation

Much like lockpicking, skinning needs to take time in the game world so you can be ambushed by other predators, bandits, sunset, etc. Very important mechanic. WoW has a skinning animation and nobody complains about it.

bro, autists are on your side, that's why they're obsessed with speedrunning.

The autistic thing is thinking "This game is WASTING MY TIME by not having a constant stream of stimulation directed at my face at all times".

Anyone knows when guard/ old camp aggro resets if I murdered a few diggers there? Has been a few years since I played the original. And I didnt want to pay for the maps there and too many diggers around that npc which would interfere with my looting.

You don't have to kill, you just do all the quests until Diego tells you to go to the Old Mine and then when you talk to Graham you tell him "Yo, gimme a map, Diego sent me" and then offers you one for 20 ore to which you can say "Give me the map or I'll will beat the **** out of you!"

Less Diggers also means better performance tho.

I'm not quite to the old camp yet, but I'm having fun so far. I think Risen had better combat but at least this new combat is still directional. Runs fine on my hardware too. Haven't noticed any stuttering. I'm on Linux though.
