So it is financially successful then. Good. I assume Kuro Games was sweating bullets after that horrible start.

I tried this "game" because I don't like being ignorant and prefer to know what I'm talking about when I trash talk something. I really don't see why this game is so successful, but we're in a world where Genshit was the best mobile game for years and even won a few awards, so here we are.

Honestly, the story is crap, even worse than Genshit's and the bar was already low. The gameplay is ... pretty decent, I guess? If you're not too demanding of course. The music is forgettable, the artistic direction is generic and overused, the gear system is truly tedious, but what matters in a gacha are the characters, right?

Frankly, just look at the character designs to understand that this game has absolutely nothing to offer. It's bland, uninspired, banal, and totally forgettable like everything else in this crappy game.

Are you really going to make me believe they didn't have any artists on hand to come up with better designs than this?

The voice acting is ridiculously bad too; the actors just read their lines, and when you listen to them, you can tell they're not paid enough to perform such crappy dialogues.

No, really, the fact that a game like this is successful is just further proof that gacha and mobile gamers aren't human.

It's not just gacha and mobile.

Several factors imo:
- it's f2p
- it has very low age rating
- its available on all available platforms basically, except mac maybe
- its anime and anime is extremely popular not only in the east but in the west as well
- game can be played casually

But the most important factor imo is the quality. Genshin Impact proved that Chinese can make really high quality games. Character design, story are debatable because its mostly about personal preference. But sounds, music, animations, etc - these things are top notch.

All the Chinese have managed to prove is that they are masters in the art of manipulating the weak-minded and gambling addicts. On that, I agree.

What is Genshit?
A frankly basic story that tells absolutely nothing, with an incredibly redundant and meaningless plot.
A basic gameplay just as repetitive as the insipid quests the game offers, with a difficulty curve close to zero.
The writing is frankly laborious, so awful that the most recurrent theme on r/genshin is the request for the addition of a skip button to save the poor addicts from its endlessly long and crappy dialogues.

The only strong point is the character design. Mihoyo's greatest achievement is understanding that weebs are superficial sub-beings who only need to be sold models of half-naked underage girls to earn their loyalty, that's all.

Oh yes, the music in this game is pretty good, okay, I’ll give them that.

I think that after 4 years of players begging for a skip button and only giving it to skip the VN-like quests is the best troll ever made. Mihoyo is pissing on their players and they're earning money for this. Absolutely hilarious. :smug:

Pointless discussion. I dont see any arguments here except 'its a weeb ***** gacha slop and its ****'.

And btw afaik more than 50% of these games revenue is generated by chinese themselves. I think US is second followed by other countries. So you can rest easy knowing its chinese who are paying for this ****.

I decided to check out this out. I tried it on my phone. I don't think I can play these 3D Chinese games on the phone, especially these action games. It is really awkward trying to move my character and camera around, and the camera is so zoomed out it is hard to see my character or to inspect the little stuff in the world. During the tutorial combat section, I did not have the dexterity to dodge in time or in the right direction. Gonna have to see if the experience is better on PC with a proper keyboard/controller to use and a big monitor to look at.

I spent about 20 minutes going through the menus. I was looking for a lore glossary, but apparently everything is locked. There were a lot of proper nouns thrown out there in rapid succession that I couldn't understand. Tacit fields. Tacit discords. Reverberation. Echoes. Resonators. Terminals. Etheric sea. Etc.

I was also looking at the main character sheet. Apparently he does "spectro" damage, but nothing in the menus would tell me what that is. I also saw the blurb on the main character's outfit saying that it is what he would wear forever, which is disappointing. And it seems he can only equip swords? If so, then it is pretty disappointing that you can't customize your chatacter.

I looked through the gallery of the other Resonators (playable characters). It seems that they are almost all young, slim, beautiful 20 somethings or teenagers. I love young slim beauties too, but it's just so samey. No variety like in Granblue Fantasy where you have old people or people with broad shouldered physiques, or non humans like penguin robots or flying cats or shapeshifting goo.

The aesthetics of the game are a mixed bag. The sound theming of the nouns is somewhat exotic and intriguing, and I liked the weird gliders. But the characters are dressed in tacky modern clothing, and the environments look like generic and plasticky. I didn't make it to the city, so no comment there.

Music was forgettable.

Voice acting/direction is overall lackluster. Not just talking about the delivery of the English dub. Chiaxi was fine. I was peeved when flipping through the character menu or the gallery of playable characters, and they would spout the same speech over and over, especially the MC with his "I will protect everyone" thing. During the cutscenes, Yangyang sounded a little too artificial, like she is not actually there. Also, I could have sworn that when she dropped certain Chinese nouns, that the sound clip for that word was copypasted from a different line, maybe because the voice actress had difficulty pronouncing it and they didn't want to spend the time to get it right.

Once again peeved how I am traveling with a party in the cutscenes, but in gameplay I am by myself, and there is the immersion breaking instant on-the-spot switching of characters, which you do a lot to use each character's ability on cooldown like you are playing some hotbar MMO.

Another update and yet another chick in a evening dress with an umbrella. I remember when they started selling this game as a sci-fi post apoc. It hardly has anything to do with sci fi anymore. Gummy bears, bunnies, dragons, butterflies, magic. They changed their tune pretty quickly.

It just seems odd that he has padding for no apparent reason. There is no strap that would chaffe against his chest or armor being overlaid on it.
