if I were to release a game all the files would just be on the disk uncompressed, anyone who complains would be told to use a modern filesystem
How many copies of each would you install?

If it's easier to duplicate data then you should do that because modern filesystems do block-level deduplication too

you guys use btrfs right?

No, I use the ancient technology of Windows 10.

But I don't think what you are saying is applicable to the Helldivers 2 case because of how textures are packed into larger files. Generally games don't leave individual texture files in the directory. I'm assuming that's due to read performance reasons and following conventions id software established.

I got ico with my ps2 and it was one of the worst games I've ever played, every redditor that praises it and/or shadow of the colossus should be tortured
I played the Colossus remake on PS4, good puzzle bosses. The Last Guardian was fun too.

I don't get it. Do you really imply that having N copies of a texture file is better than having 1?

If the filesystem deduplicates it, it's just N virtual copies

every game that wasn't a ps3 exclusive ran like **** because ps3 had weird hardware nobody wanted to optimize ports for
Drakengard 3, **** that game. The ps2 games didn't run any better though, but at least those wouldn't freeze for 10 seconds :pipe-thinking:

Skyrim would be a far better example of a game that ran like **** on PS3.
The better example would be New Vegas, which was downright unplayable, ******* game ran at like 5fps in the most important of places (Caesar's fort).

At one point I was freezing every few seconds, terrible port. 10 year old me had an insane amount of patience to play that ****.

It is true though, most games of old ran like ****, anyone remembers the OG mgs3? geez.

When Ready or Not released for the consoles the file size was magically shrunk from over 100 gb to less than 50 gb. Devs can do it they just don't want to.

Side note: something did get downgraded with the release of Ready or Not on consoles, the baked lighting looks absolutely terrible now unfortunately. But at least the game isn't massive anymore.
I thought you meant the download not the entire game, that's very cool. I'll reinstall it I guess.

Tbh would be kinda cool to play a stealth/survivor/horror game where you're a white woman in India trying to avoid gang rape, disease, food poisoning, stepping on feces etc. I don't know many games that force you to CONSTANTLY be paying attention because one step into the wrong ******** street and BAM, 3 pajeets come out from a pile of manure and rape you. If you end up preggo with a **** baby it's game over.

There should definitely be more thrillers set in India, it's the perfect place for it. Of course, even the cast and crew making the film would be harrassed, but it's worth it. As for video games, it would probably have to be a stealth game, or an action game like Resident Evil 5. '***** are basically the Las Plagas enemies anyway, Chris would fit right in.

I honestly feel that Ueda's games are made for an audience who want to feel smart rather then play a good video game. Similar to Yoko Taro's work the "experience" seems to be more important then anything else. That might not be the worst thing ever if the fanbases for these games weren't mainly hipsters and pseudo-intellectuals claiming they are the pinnacle of the medium.

If i remember correctly, PS5 have separate processor or some part that handles compression and decompression specifically, while on PC this is handled by CPU with the rest of the tasks. May be modern devs can't handle parallel processing or can't do decompression on CPU.

Hmm... what is the speed difference between fractal generation and that of pre-generated images all things considered? An equation would be much smaller in storage size for sure.
