If you go back and remove a game from the timeline

Post by Vergil »

Inspired by this this thread. Instead of a game that never could what is a game you wish never was? Personally I wish Fallout 4 could be excised from the timeline. While Fallout 3 has it's problems the property could still be salvaged which New Vegas showed. Fallout 4 however has cast a dark shadow over the entire franchise forever destroying the tone and general aesthetic. Fallout 4 has led to 76 and the TV show both of which has cemeted that Fallout now looks like this ugly unappealing garbage.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

Ao no Kiseki/Trails to Azure

Due to how it negatively affected the development and writing of the following Trails of Cold Steel games. In Ao, the country of Crossbell gets annexed by the Erebonian Empire (due to the incredible negligence and hypocrisy of the protagonists), and then promises that Crossbell will be liberated in two years. This would have been fine if this had happened offscreen, but Falcom game into fan pressure and wound up shoehorning the Crossbell characters and locations into Cold Steel storyline, detracting from precious screentime and resources that could have been better used to flesh out Erebonia and its locales and characters, as well as very wonky writing decisions such as the Crossbell characters suddenly becoming best friends with the Erebonian characters.

Speaking of Valve I wish CS:GO didn't pave the way for awful e-gambling loot crate games populated by third worlders.

You wouldn't attribute that to TF2?

I could list some games that set bad precedents - Mass Effect's popularization of slashfic rpgs, World of Warcraft convincing Blizzard that they don't have to try, Diablo 3 being an early sell-first-actually-make-later game, Assassin's creed pioneering the modern brain-dead open world model, Cave Story as the original soyjak pixelshit game, but somehow it's Bioshock that left the shittiest taste in my mouth. Not even for how it relates to System Shock, but for its insultingly lazy game design and insistence that you be in awe of its basic-***** ''deep'' moments.

To elaborate: the popularity of Bioshock is what set the precedent that single player just means ''story and atmosphere'', which you see among really dense people. Some people just can't conceive that I want to play some fun levels by myself.

FF7, popularized generic teenagers with spyke hair and unpractical sword saving the world and made Planescape Torment much worse, full of cinematic spells.

Ocarina of Time has some shared blame there, but yeah, they've both made graphics flexing into a way, way bigger problem than it needed to be.

Call of Duty. Removing this franchise from the timeline would have a massive, tidal wave effect across the industry. It was the franchise that single-handedly promoted the dumbing down and consolization of the hobby, and resulted in worse games across the board.

We'd be getting Medal of Honor: Warfighter remakes instead

Konami's corporate incompetence killed the franchise, just like they killed Suikoden.

There's a reason Hitler's HQ on the eastern front was called the "Wolf's Lair"

Are we all forgetting that the name Adolf means Noble Wolf? Europe's honoured protector is a cute lil awoo.

On another note, Rise of the Reds made the European Union into a ''furry faction'' (fan joke based on the fact that their vehicles are mostly named after animals), and it is the most based, warrior-spirited depiction fo Europe I've seen in a video game in years. It has no official campaign yet (there is a solid fan campaign set in Africa), but it's one of my favourite RTSes based on its cool factor and the toys it lets you play with.

I wouldn't destroy a game or games. I know where the poison comes from: Microsoft.
Without them, not only would we have an actual decent Linux OS where gaming is developed and released for, but we would ALSO have no Xbox polluting computer gaming development.
There would be Nintendo, which is fine, and Sony Playstation which was fine before the battle with the Microsoft evil.
Console ******* would be contained, and PC gaming would have flourished without the mainstreaming.
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.
Reject your retarded-wing political programming and learn to think.
If you can.

Arcanum and Planescape: Torment.

"Muh C&C" and "RPGs aren't about gameplay" are the worst things to ever happen to RPGs.

CoD wasn't created in a vacuum, it was created by people from 2015 studio that previously worked on Medal of Honor Allied Assault. And MOHAA wouldn't have existed if not for the original MoH on PSX. And the original MoH was created by Dreamworks, Stephen Spielberg's studio. Spielberg founded the Dreamworks gaming division because he wanted to educate the american youth on WW2, but thought that "Saving private Ryan" and "Schindler's list" were too grim for kids.

Basically, Spielberg ruined the gaming industry.
