The Metal Gear franchise has been one of my obsessions for a very long time and with a new slopmake on the horizon to introduce a new wave of newfags and tourists I figured now is a good time to make a thread.
I usually go through the entire franchise or at least the Big Boss era games (sans MGSV because I don't consider it canon ) pretty regularly. I think MGS3 still holds up fantastically and frankly I would be satisfied if games never progressed past this point visually and focused on pushing hardware in more interesting ways.
My hopes for the remake are below basement level and I see no improvements that could be made besides graphics which will inevitably become outdated themselves anyway. Also MGS2 Raiden is better than Solid Snake
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?
I preferred when it was honestly. Even the Kojima directed games were rapidly declining in quality and I would rather it stay buried than dug up and almost certainly ****** up and subverted by the new hands that get on it.

I just wish more people called kojima on the ******** that was the monetized MGS V demo/ Ground Zeroes. Im sure no one remembers camp omega besides a few modders.

Honestly Camp Omega is better than almost all of the little bases throughout the game. I wish MGSV was a series of medium sized and highly detailed areas like that instead of two lifeless open worlds.

GZ is so much better than TPP it's nutty. Carrying a PoW from the cellar of a base to the LZ under fire while your chopper is supporting you > pressing the Fulton button in an outpost consisting of a watch tower and an outhouse
@Vergil
Yeah TPP did feel like a rush job when 90% of the gameplay is sprinting full speed towards the next waypoint.
Gundam rex was dumb, had even dumber name, and if it was actually canon and not just Kojima giving up because he was forced to do his job instead of laze around all day, it makes the plot of MGS 1 2 and 4 make no sense. Who cares about a nuke equipped walker in alaska or arsenal gear? Just send the latest Gundam to go intercept the nuke and take back shadow moses or scuttle the carrier and be back within the hour.

Feels like Metal Gear was consistently one of the most discussed franchises of all time until V came out and ******* stunk.
Issue is the franchise got dominated by MGSV only newfags and all they want to talk about is how there's a super secret entire third chapter of EPIC content that Kojima was making before Konami came in and stuffed him into a locker.
Likewise it's hard to talk about characters and lore when so *** who watched a plot synopsis on youtube wants to connect everything to fanfiction snake.

I remember everyone gave Metal Gear RAXA from Portable Ops so much **** for having a weirdly advanced Metal Gear too early in the storyline (omg this is what happens when you take control from Kojima!) and then Kojima went and did every single thing people didn't like about Portable Ops himself in Peacewalker and TPP.

MGS feels like a lot of Wasted Potential: The Series to me. It has such a rich world and all Kojima wanted to was movie-like games with "Hollywood" actors. With that said, I'm not a fan of how Delta is developing graphically, would have preferred if Konami remade MG 1-2 and MGS1-4 (Portable Ops and Peacemaker could be smashed into a MGS3.5) in the Fox Engine.

I thought peace walker was passable as some test stages for what would culminate into Rex and Ray. Though considering the glorified battletech catapult the original Metal gear games were based around, yeah it is way too advanced. Kojima sure didn't know where to go after MGS3 with big boss.

They ****** up by not giving him a quick redesign when it became clear they couldn't get his concept art hair translated to the PS2.
Everybody looks a little weird in MGS2. I think Raiden is one of the few who looks okay. The hair physics amused me I like stupid stuff like that.
Snake himself has some weird face geometry going on.

I thought it was insanely big, advanced, and having it controlled by two hyper intelligent AIs that possibly become possessed by a dead woman's spirit made the TX-55 Metal Gear look very "quaint".

I like Portable Ops a lot and I'm forever annoyed that Kojima **** riders still pretend like it's not canon despite being explicitly mentioned in games afterwards. It also tried more interesting things that I wish Kojima had copied instead of all the bad parts.
Let me collect a cast of cool iconic characters to run around as instead of identical masked goons you ******* **** coward!

Its annoying because portable ops was better than peace walker imo. Its not "loading screen: the game" which was my experience of peace walker on the xbox port.

Peacewalker still has a lot of things I enjoyed and it's one of my favorites. It just makes me even more bitter that instead of a better Peacewalker MGSV was a slightly worse Peacewalker with better graphics.
I never got to play Co-Ops with a friend and was hoping MGSV would allow me to experience that

I've only played Metal Gear in the Nintendo (Famicom/NES) and wasnt very impressed. Never played the rest as gameplay videos and cutscenes looked bad. Tried reading a bit of the plots and it looked even worse. My 2 cents

The NES version was ruined. Metal Gear is an MSX2 game.

In fairness, I only rented it and played for a couple of hours and put it down without doing much ingame.
I think Metal Gear Solid and Tenchu were what got me into stealth games.
Metal Gear Solid I played the hell out of and still never really understood the overarching story.
MGS 2 confused the **** outta me but I still loved the game.
MGS 4 was fun until it got the poorly done FPS part.
I was hooked on the design of MGS 5 until it got too repetitive.

Sadly I missed MGS 3. It's out on steam so will wishlist it unless they've DEI'd it somehow.
I humbly believe the Twin Snakes revisions bring it in line with MGS3's sniping a falling beam with an RPG to blast it out of the way from the sidecar or EVA doing a motorcycle backflip off of Ocelot's face to launch herself 30 feet into the air vertically over a wall

I got a totally legitimate copy of it from a different retailer because I'm not spending 20 bucks for a port of a single game off the HD collection including being locked a 720p and bugged audio.

I consider Kojima a hack, but the first 3 games were decent, even if the over the top camp wasn't to my taste. The second stuck with me the most - the setting, the art, the story that grows increasingly more bizarre yet whose essence remains tethered to reality the most. Deep state insider's last gamble to try and drain the swamp with fire and sword as he crosses the rubicon. Kojima was always a **** director though and in typical fashion he botched the death sequence. Shame about raiden as well - kojimbob had a chance to craft another icon to rival Snake.
2 also had the best artbook post release. Shinkawa at his best. I read long ago from someone claiming to have insider knowledge that Konami scrapped the art book for the third when it was already compiled and ready for printing.
The thing about Kojima is that he's a complete westaboo who copies movie and TV shows he likes. This was fine early in his career when the west was producing kino but now the "art" that inspires him are ****** A24 films and shows like the walking dead.
