Overview
Yakuza Restored is a restoration patch for the original US release of Yakuza for PS2, that I hope will be a new way to experience the classic that started it all. It includes Japanese audio (undub), a revised script, and some redone graphical elements.
If you want to play it on PS3, you'll have to apply an additional little patch/fix for that, after applying the main patch, which is included in the .zip file.
You will need an ISO disc image of the US release of Yakuza.

Here's the list of modifications that are included in the patch:
- English dub audio has been replaced with the original Japanese audio.
- Cutscene subtitles have been completely re-translated, with the Japanese audio timing.
- In-game script has received a complete re-edit and partial re-translation pass:
- Removed all excessive profanity/vulgarity, the affected lines re-translated.
- Restored all original character names (didn't mess with Punk-*** Abe though...)
- Re-translated any parts that seemed suspect, off, or didn't make sense.
- Changed titles like patriarch/captain/lieutenant.
- Consistent use of honorifics.
- Fixed up awkward or poor wording.
- Fixed up layouts, with consistent use of typewriter pauses, and some additional color coding.
- Fixed a number of dialog bugs present in the original version.
- Innumerable other corrections, tweaks, and re-translations.
- In terms of raw numbers, around 50% of the ~20K in-game lines have been modified some way.
- Introduction, mission, and fight cards have been recreated using a familiar font.
- Freeze-frame introductions have been recreated to match the in-game image, with improved quality.
- Typewriter/text videos have been recreated.
- Chapter title cards have been edited for translation and layout.
- Opening trailer has been recreated shot-for-shot in higher quality, as far as was possible.
- Cutscene subtitles have been raised a bit, as they were too close to the edge of the screen.
- Title screen has received a small makeover.
- End credits have been edited to reflect the change in voiced language.

Installation
1. You need an ISO copy of the US version of Yakuza for PS2.
2. Go to this page: https://emn178.github.io/online-tools/md5_checksum.html and analyze your ISO file.
3. If the result is not 251059e4d54fb61369e1139b5d4d5e6c, your file is corrupt/bad, and you must acquire a proper copy before proceeding.
4. If it is not included in the download, download deltapatcher_v2.0.1_win32_bin.zip from here: https://github.com/marco-calautti/Delta ... /tag/2.0.1. and extract the zip. There are various versions of DeltaPatcher, but this one is guaranteed to work.
5. Launch DeltaPatcherLite, under 'Original file' select the original game ISO, under 'XDelta patch' select the 'Yakuza (USA) (Restored 1.0).xdelta' patch extracted from the zip in step 5.
6. On the cogwheel icon, I highly recommend checking 'Backup original file', otherwise the original ISO file will be lost in the patching process.
7. Press 'Apply patch' and WAIT. Don't touch anything even if it looks like the program isn't responding. On my machine it takes about 4 minutes to apply the patch, your mileage may vary.
8. You should now have another ISO with 'PATCHED' in the name, that you can load up and play on an emulator or a PS2.
Optional if you intend to play the game on a PS3 using its PS2 emulation function:
9. Launch DeltaPatcherLite again, but this time under 'Original file' select the 'PATCHED' file that resulted from step 8, and under 'XDelta patch' select the 'Yakuza (USA) (Restored 1.0) PS3 Fix v2.xdelta' from step 10.
10. Press 'Apply patch'. This fix is tiny so should complete in a matter of seconds.
