How a company can fail on a series that already had a good design set to work from is beyond me. If you are going to name a game in a series, it should do everything the previous games did and improve on it, not re-create, re-design, re-invent, but "improve".

So they removed directional armor and all the other features that required spatial thinking so that women could play it?

Terrible poster, I'm on Broseph discord and have him blocked. When I enter IRC I always manually block him (it's satisfying) along with the mega ****** @Roguey (someone please kill him), the boringest poster alive @Norfleet who has NEVER anything remotely interest to add to any conversation.
In sum, Jeb is a ******.

It just came out?
Anybody played it?

What is bad about it? (I haven't followed this game for years...)

(Homeworld 1 & 2 were great.)

Apparently they removed a ton of the features. No more hyperspace jumps in battle, no more directional armor, no more ship modules, strikecraft are very rudimentary, etc. They apparently wanted to make battles more fast paced and less reliant on spatial positioning. They also added a bunch of generic "+X% for Y seconds" active abilities to each unit with cooldowns to manage, so the gameplay is about managing the CD rotations on your giant blob of ships while it fights the enemy's giant blob of ships head-on.

EDIT: Also allegedly the story is dangerhair slay queen BS.
EDIT2: Apparently they removed the projectile physics so attacks just home in on the target if the game decides they'll hit or something.

This is the standard that games have been pushed to for decades. It is the dumbing down and speeding up of play to cater to the people who can't sit still for 5 seconds and think any sort of strategy play that doesn't involved spamming keys is "boring". You can see it in everything from MMOs to single player.

While I have nothing against fast action play, its a "style", not a standard.

I am biased , but I tend to blame the console market for pushing it as the base audience to appeal to. I am not saying PC games didn't have action focused games, but they also had a nice balance of slow strategy based games being put out.

Before someone pops in and lists all the games from consoles that were slow strategy or turn based, that isn't the point, the general "main audience" of consoles they designed for were arcade/action instant gratification types and that became the standard for most PC games eventually to try and market on back in the late 90's with the push for many "action/rpg" systems becoming the focus.

I know that you don't really play an rts like Homeworld for the story experience... but still... this thing is atrocious.

since i'm the man of dishonor in the title, i feel like i should weigh in:

don't buy hw3 lmao. hw3 has the dishonor of the only game i've ever played that has crushed my soul from how awful the story is. i don't mean to be overly melodramatic, but homeworld is - for a lack of a better word - part of my soul. i first played it when i was 8 or so and even then something about its story resonated with me, and its aesthetics, music, and atmosphere. i remember getting excited for homeworld 2 and it mostly delivered - except for the dumb magic mcguffin story

i was sincerely expecting homeworld 3 to at least partially resemble what was shown in the original dust wars story documents. i had no idea that the story would be a literal, deviantart oc donut-tier story that does not get what homeworld *is* at all

homeworld is partially responsible for forming a good amount of my tastes; paul ruskay is pretty much responsible for turning me into an ambienthead and forming a good percentage of my taste in music, and it has also given me a good internal filter to gauge how good a story can be, and what merits to judge an story with. seeing homeworld 3 with its absolute dogshit story was probably the most mentally draining thing i've seen in ages

i lurked the relicnews forums for years too - a lot of people there pumped out great stuff. i can only wonder what kind of threads would be on there now if it was still alive
