Yes, well, that's nice and all but it's not an RPG.

The way I see it is if a game has almost nothing in common with Wizardry, Rogue, Ultima, and such beyond basic video game mechanics common throughout the medium then it can't be an RPG.
Games like the Borderland series are closer to being RPGs than Disco Elysium, yet I still believe they fall short.

When you get right down to it, all games are role playing games. We assume a role, whether that's a faggy gay elf in a fantasy world. A marine shooting demons, or a big yellow sphere that eats ghosts.
