A problem with high resolution texture mods in FNV and similarly old games is you're quickly going to run up against the wall of memory space available for a 32bit application. This could theoretically be fixed with e.g., a fork of DXVK that uses entirely out of process memory, but I don't think anything exists like that yet.

New Vegas has the 4gb patch and some xNVSE plugins that mitigate the issue pretty well. I should also mention don't get the "4k" versions of anything I list it's very unnecessary and is just bloating your game for negligible graphical increases.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

more graphically up to date
The only essentials that I would pretty much blanket recommend are:
Legacy Reborn Texture Pack
Atmospheres - Weather and Lighting
And pretty much anything Balebandr0 has released as part of his "physically based" collection
https://next.nexusmods.com/profile/Balebandr0/mods
You can get New Vegas Reloaded (requires joining their discord but it's easy to find) if you feel like dealing with it and only using a couple of the shaders like volumetric fog and tonemapping in the settings menu. Most of the others will look iffy depending on location and sucker **** your framerate.

add new weapons and armor
Classic Fallout Weapons Remastered & Hit - Classic Fallout Weapon Animations - Part 1
Tammer's NIF-Bashed Armor Mega-Pack
https://fallout.firedrakecreative.com/doku.php?id=armor
Anything else is going to again depend on personal preference.

No besides my very awful dirty edit of the enclave remnants and changing the Zion tribals to pagan larpers. A mod like that for New Vegas would be kind of hard because it doesn't really have forced diversity like modern games. The NCR having women as soldiers/leaders fits them being a shitlib incompetent democracy. The only black Legion character of consequence I can think of is the guy at Cottonwood Cove and Caesar is pulling soldiers from all over his territory so it's not really forced for there to be a few darkies in there.
As for the **** at least 3/4 require you to have taken one of the *** perks yourself to interact with the content and the rest are thematically appropriate. A seedy brothel catering to NCR tourists is gonna have male strippers, one of the *** prostitutes is a runaway slave who was about to be killed to keep his *** master's secret intact and Veronica is a stupid ugly hole so being a **** isn't really out of place all things considered. :Inspector:
It's not like BG3 where half the population are inexplicably **** and no one seems to notice how peculiar that is.

Missed this prior, it appears by the area of "Vegas" that House saved was actually much of the western coast according to Raul. I guess this was Obsidian's way of explaining why the east coast is so much worse than the west coast.

Is Fallout: New Vegas a Good Successor to the Classics? (and why?)
No.

Mind you, I think that FNV is a stellar game. But I don't think it's a good successor, simply because it is based in Bethesda's FO3, with all that entails. A mediocre shooter-wannabe hiking simulator can never become a good successor to a series of classic isometric turn-based roleplaying games. I would go so far as to say that Fallout Tactics is a better successor to FO1/FO2 than FNV.

I enjoy FNV, I think it's great. But in an ideal world, FO3 would never have happened as it did, and so subsequently FNV would not have either.

As much as I like New Vegas, having it never existing is a good price to pay for all the Fallout raping to never have happened. No Fallout 3, 4, 76 or that fuckawful Amazon show and no normalfags acting like gourmets while eating up the worst goyslop imaginable.

**** am I reading? Fallout 1 and 2 are self contained. NV is a nostalgic love letter to them. The rest are bad Tumblr tier fanfictions and cash grabs.

The east coast having the exact same supermutants, ghouls, radscorpions, deathclaws, BOS faction, etc, is ******** beyond belief.
Fallout 3 and 4 are idiotic.

My head started to hurt when I realized that Bethesda was streamlining Fallout. They just killed every bit of lore from 1 n 2,

Yes, because where FO1 laid the foundation, it was limited. FO2 had great but rushed poorly implemented ideas, which some were later meant for Van Buren (Avellone - Sawyer, et.al.), but ended up being almost all of them 6ft under. FNV sort of redeemed the "oblivion with guns" formula from the bethesda blight - though with a heavy stench of ******** americana all over like the previous FO3 and the other sequels ones that, while ignorable it may be a setback in terms of setting, to which all previous FOs (Tactics and before) did not care for, that in a way, satirized.
► Show Spoiler
Many of the strongest points for FNV were its DLCs, spectacular in setting and voice acting, though not being revolutionary at all in terms of gameplay but did the job.
So while not being isometric 2d and being a breeze to play through, it's worth it.

If you're looking for the ideal sequel for the classics, might as well jump off a cliff. It could have been something either between the settings of Van Buren and Tactics (the non-******** parts excluding the ending).

Cans are filthy. At least wash the lids before you drink from them or pour them in a glass.

Ulysses, the Black Bull (he himself refers to the legion as the Bull and he is a former member of the legion), has perfect stats (he is superior to you), and has been to every dlc location before you (has popped every locational cherry), obsidian literally makes you a **** and has you pay for it. thank god bethesda gave them such a tight time limit for development or they probably would have had a fully rigged BBC sex scene with Veronica in the endslides
