Games you play most often

Post by Acrux »

I have a number of games (not just RPGs) that are always on my hard drive, and I when I get a new machine I try to get them installed ASAP. I've played many of these games for 20 years or more. I've given up hope for new games to play as well the ones below, and realize what I'd really want is just more content for these. Do you have a list like this?

Arcanum
Baldur's Gate 2 (heavily modded)
Civilization 2: Test of Time
Civilization 4 (mostly Fall Further mods)
Deus Ex
Fallout Tactics
Icewind Dale 2
Kohan: Immortal Soverigns/Ahriman's Gift
Majesty
MissionForce: Cyberstorm
Red Alert 2
Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood
Roller Coaster Tycoon (now OpenRCT2)
Siege of Avalon
Stronghold/Stronghold Crusader
Temple of Elemental Evil

Rarely do I replay games, so no. I can see myself replaying some games eventually, once I have thoroughly forgotten their contents, but not so often that I would have a 'must be installed' list. A few years ago I may have listed DCSS, but I burned out on it, and I no longer play competitive online games, so those are out too.

The EEs have a very good mod that allows you to spot traps immediately instead of only on each round's tick. Highly recommended.
Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Non-EE modding is pretty much dead. The damage EEs actually did is barely discussed: killed interest in the original games + killed interest in GemRB.

The Dominions series, Todd games/Enderal, Total War, Terraria and Stardew Valley, Sword of the Stars 1, Rising Storm Vietnam, Orcs Must Die 1&2, Wargame Red Dragon, Forged Alliance, Gungeon, Xpiratez, Hotline Miami, Spacechem, nuDoom, and Brigador. I have also spent a long time playing Troubleshooter but still haven't finished so can't "replay" it.

I like the memeloop. In my ideal game I can jump in immediately and have a short session of intense gameplay, with no story or cutscene padding.

I do not have the patience to replay through linear story games. And I have fallen out of love with the so-called "monocoled classics": Fallout 1/2, BG, IWD. I don't think that I'll ever want to replay them, or even play a game that's much like them.

Back in the day, the first game I would install on a new PC was Heroes of Might and Magic III, later Quake III: Arena, Diablo II.

With the advent of Steam, nowadays I rarely preload games before I intend to play them, but there are some that almost always end up installed on any machine of mine:

M&B: Warband
The Age of Decadence
Resident Evil Remake
Deus Ex

Neverwinter Nights (online)

There's no substitute to playing DM quests with active players on a good server with permadeath and pvp.

Step 1: Find the good, active players.
