What do you guys think of ***** at GW making female Custodes a thing? Something they'll backtrack, or first step to female Space Marines?

40k is dead. I'm not being facetious or hyperbolic, it's now only a matter of time before female Space Marines are a thing, and likely *** or ***** Primarchs. Within 10 years I bet we'll see one of the Primarchs return as a "woman".

I disagree. The lore was good because it was so batshit crazy and grimdark, it crossed the line twice into being entertaining.

Custodes being female is to pave the way for both female Space Marines and also ***** Space Marines.

Nevermind women had Eldar, Sisters of Silence and the Sisters of Battle.

But of course that wasn't enough. Its never enough. It has never been about "muh representation".

At first it was 'silly', crazy big armour in bright colours - basically just a off the rails version of WFB -- however, Reddit got a hold of it in the late 2000's early 2010's and made it a cesspool of distilled autism.

Gone was the silly, replaced by heckin' 'GRIMDARK' (which is an autistic term, and an even more autistic world building style) - which just as with G.R.R Martin's Game of Slop is a poor way of writing a story with any degree of melancholy or complexity. You simply replace all nuance with sadism, and gratuitious violence. Sprinkle in some 'Shades of Grey' since you're too demoralised to understand what 'Good' and 'Evil' actually are.

Ideas such as the Imperial Guard lose 10,000 men a second, and the Death Korps shell their own men, and that all Humans eat rotting bodies for food.

It's pathetic, it's stupid, and it damages the immersion by completely ignoring verisimilitude; giant walking cathedrals can pass the suspension of disbelief because they are 'cool', and because who knows what whack technology they could have in the far future -- pointless masturbatory gore and cruelty does not.

Early on 40k was a satire cooked up by leftist *****, but media illiterate audiences "missed" the point and correctly recognized that the Imperium were the good guys. Cue decades of fans forcing GW to portray the Imperium in a positive light, GW kicking and screaming about it all the while.

Later on Reddit latched on and injected their nihilistic woke worldview, so now the Imperium started to be portrayed less as a good faction forced to do evil things to guarantee the survival of the species, and more as an outright evil faction.

I'm not sure if the original 80's and 90's runs of 40k were satire as such, I think they use satirical elements, but generally it was more about trying to build a compelling world narrative, rather than to say 'How dumb these people are'. It was generally more just a science-fantasy version of WFB -- which in turn is just a DnD Spin-off.
