Realizing on this playthrough that Astarion is probably the best companion as long as you don't pick the playersexual options. Me and him just talking about the girls we like or other mundane stuff like that makes him feel more like an actual human (despite being an elf vampire) and a potential friend than any of the others. He also heavily dials back on the campiness after the first couple of interactions.

thats his quirk in his original games as well. it's explained by some childhood trauma, then the hamster is his cope etc. But he's a pretty fun and well constructed character in general IMO, interesting to have around (unfortunately his class sucked in original BGs and that's why he's ditched most times).
