GOG-Games Going 'Private' March 23rd
GOG-Games is going 'private' on March 23rd. What this means isn't clear; I couldn't find any further information on the page. Comments in a Reddit thread speculate that the admin will require payment in order for users to access downloads in the future. This seems the most likely explanation since they've given early warning.
Since GOG-Games isn't p2p, I can't see how they can avoid being hunted down if they start charging money. I predict the site will be dead soon. Very sad since it was my go-to for anything published on GOG. Hopefully future replacements are as comprehensive.
Update: See latest post for details;

Is it not even an acronym anymore? I truly hate that.
Nope, now it's just one half of Gog-Magog.Oyster Sauce wrote: ↑ March 20th, 2024, 19:48Is it not even an acronym anymore? I truly hate that.
Back in my day to get games online you had to go to a warez site, then manually click to download each of the 1000 parts the game was split into. Then leave it downloading all night even though the entire game had barely 100mb. Then restart most of the downloads next day since most of them would fail randomly. Then repeat the process a few more nights and you could finally install it. If you were lucky they were compressed in some continuous format like rar or arc parts that found the next archive automatically, otherwise you had to uncompress them one by one manually. Then re-download a lot of parts since they were corrupted. And all that just to find out the game sucked and uninstall it after a few hours. Afterwards you had to format the entire box and reinstall msdos because the game had a virus.

I heard this site had been taken down some months ago, then revived fairly recently. Now they're closing up shop 'again'?. It's a shame too, because I started to use it regularly. Tired of giving bad corporations my money, DRM-free or not.

That is why I buy video games. I would rather pay Valve or Sony for them than spend hours searching for them on the internet. It saves me time and energy.asf wrote: ↑ March 20th, 2024, 19:59Back in my day to get games online you had to go to a warez site, then manually click to download each of the 1000 parts the game was split into. Maybe the operator should have clarified at all what was meant instead of putting a big red vague declaration at the top and then not responding to any questions about what it meant.
Why do these people always turn out to be emotional faggots? Just run the site the way you want and disregard idiots.
Kids these days, nobody had ever heard of valve or shitty steam schemes in those days. That was the only way to get games online, for actual purchases you needed to order a box, which were nice but that is beside the point.PayStation wrote: ↑ March 23rd, 2024, 15:35That is why I buy video games. Did the mastodon link not give it away that the person operating it has severe mental issues?
i just grab everything off ovagames.com or igg-games.com
used those for years and never had a single problem. obviously use uBlock to block the ads.
EDIT: for switch games i use nsw2u.com or ziperto.com , for most other emulation i use Vimm's lair.
also use this sometimes, the byAlvaro collection (terabytes of complete rom and iso sets): https://comfybox.floofey.dog/resources/ ... links.100/

If it takes you hours to find such things on the internet, you should give up on the internet.PayStation wrote: ↑ March 23rd, 2024, 15:35That is why I buy video games. Common practice by companies is to submit numerous false positives to the virus scanners as well to try and scare people from using them.aweigh wrote: ↑ March 23rd, 2024, 16:32they don't. i would've picked up on it by now since i've used them for many years and i obsessively watch over my process and thread count.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ March 23rd, 2024, 16:30cs.rin.ru doesn't allow igg-games because they put malware in their downloads fyiaweigh wrote: ↑ March 23rd, 2024, 16:28i just grab everything off ovagames.com or igg-games.com

Running a sandbox, or VM solves a lot of those problems anyway. Used to be difficult to run modern games in a VM, but these days due to all the advances, all but the beefiest titles run fine if you have a good machine.

Removing ""their"" credits breaks the games

Really?, IGGGames is a mainstay on 1337x. Every day they upload dozens of games.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ March 23rd, 2024, 16:30cs.rin.ru doesn't allow igg-games because they put malware in their downloads fyiaweigh wrote: ↑ March 23rd, 2024, 16:28i just grab everything off ovagames.com or igg-games.com

Edit: I also run Linux, so I'm probably immune to any Windows-based viruses anyway.
