In The Legend of Zelda you unlocked Second Quest after beating the game which changes where certain items and locations appear, but it was Zelda 2 that let you replay the game with all your stats and spells intact.
It's a shmup thing. Loops after finishing the game, many times upgrading your ship to something better and ****.

Chrono Trigger is the first that called it New Game +, but there were similar types of game modes before that iirc

Watching this footage you'd think this game came out recently, but these are visuals from 2012. Not that games should look "better" than this, I'd argue they definitely should not, but modern developers can't even match the quality of E3 2012 Watch Dogs.

I'm getting real sick of quests where the NPC says "Oh please help me find my darling beloved Mary!" and then the twist is Mary is an animal or object.

I hate games with driving in traffic. If you are going to make driving in a modern city a key feature, and not just an action sequence on rails, you need to enforce the ******* laws.

If you are going to simulate traffic, simulate the consequences of crossing the double yellow or driving on the sidewalk.

Don't forget paid parking, parking tickets, parking metres, watching out for bikers. These are all things that should be very important in gaming!.

One of those things that subverted expectations like 30 years ago that is now a tired trope like fake out jump scares in horror.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

Ah yes, let's make this game with a high-stakes story about criminals but let players drive all over the road like its china or italy, and we'll set the game in a White country.

These games are normally set in American cities.

This is one of the most annoying aspects of the Dark Soul series, after you rest at a campfire they all respawn at the same location. It's dull, that's why some modders created randomizers to change up enemies locations.

Sleeping Dogs is set in China so you simulate as a typical Asian driver hitting pedestrians like a good squinty eyes.

The pet system in Torchlight 2 needs to be retroactively included in every RPG, action or turn-based. Not only does your pet assist you in combat, but you can even give it all the trash loot you want to sell and get rid of and it will do it for you, although it won't be there to help you for a short while. It's so useful it can even buy health potions and other items.

Tried playing ff7 remake and it has an insane amount of cutscenes. Japs need to just make movies instead of movies pretending to be games, ffs.

Here's a novel thought, why not design a game that doesn't drown you in metric tons of trash you have no use for?

Absolute worst aspect of every game that copies the diablo 2/WoW item color loot puke is 99% of the items you find are trash and have zero reason to exist in the game world.
Devs will implement ******* loot filters rather than rethink their absolutely ******** design.

Some loot is situational, some only useful when at certain levels, and some loot is just sold for quick cash to buy better gear. The pet system alleviates the hassle of having to travel/fast travel to the nearest merchant to sell what you don't want, at least.

Loot will always be a part of most RPGs, as that's what drives players to play aside from getting stronger. They want to sell enough to afford the best stuff.

"some"
nearly every single item you find in diablo 2-likes is worthless. >99%.

Western games have that to an abundance too, look at that ****** Suicide Squad Game. You go back to the The Order 1886, God of War Remake, Last of US, ******* love that type of goyslop.

That's just the name of the game, Rusty. You cycle through all the stuff and sell what you don't want to buy better and better things. Plenty of other RPGs do it too, but Diablo speeds up the process drastically to fit it's more Arcadey mould.

No, most RPGs don't do it because they put thought into their games.
The next time you see a contradictory or useless magical item in one of those games, stop to wonder why someone in the game world would have made such an item. For what purpose?
Completely destroys the games for me.

Trash is needed at some degree to bring some flavor and characterization to the game. A game 100% optimized is boring as ****.

randomly generated loot is about as satisfying to find as the amount of work that went into generating it (zero)

You don't play a Diablo-like for the lore or story, though. You play it for the sheer thrill of mowing down mobs of enemies and enjoying the visual spectacle. It's like an isometric CRPG, except it doesn't bore you to tears with needless bloat and slow gameplay!. Even the trash loot has a utilitarian purpose, like I said they are largely to be sold and to give you the opportunity to find a diamond in the rough to customize your character with. If a Diablo-like was made to be more like Zelda, with only a tiny handful of really good loot, then that would get boring because you know exactly what to expect. Diablo-likes are made to be procedurally generated and dynamic, so a trash loot from one enemy might become a rare or legendary one in the next. Ya never know.

If the item has no good reason to exist in the gameworld, it shouldn't exist.
Items can be situationally useful, some items can be rarer and more powerful. But items that exist purely to sell to a vendor are ******** as ****.

Why would anyone pay money for the item if nobody wants to use it?

It's why I don't even consider them RPGs, they're cookie clicker clones for graphics whores.
