No such thing as Gothic 4. The game is called Arc*nia - a Gothic tale.

This reminded me of Steven Seagal's "unofficial" film series.

While making a russian translation for Seagal's film "Above the Law", movie bootleggers didn't bother adapting the title and just called it "Niko" (that was main character's name). The film was a surprise hit on VHS, so in order to capitalize on it the bootleggers started acquiring copies of other Seagal's films and then intentionally mistranslating them and fitting into the newly created "Niko" series. "Hard to kill" became Niko 2, "Marked For Death" became "Niko 3", "Out for Justice" became Niko 4, etc.

At first I read the headline as a group of wokies "canceling" the original Deus Ex game - presumably for forecasting the c00fdemic among many other conspiracy "theories". :read:

rather preferred the way games used to look before they started hiring pajeets to fill every room with random garbage
There's a certain quality to idtech and idtech-style games that is hard to describe. Utilitarian doesn't quite hit it, as the games often look good too.

I think it might have to do with tools being taken away from level designers such that the design flow is now that level designers create blockouts rather than something closer to the finished product.
Basically I want this with higher quality textures

of course indie devs manage to repeatedly **** this up by insisting on making ~~retro~~ games that look like someone took a pixelized **** on my screen

The new indie trend is PS1 style graphics.

Except PS1 games were made by people with talent and a genuine aesthetic direction.

Fallout's combat was boring because it has no sci-fi magic.

The sixth generation as a whole, including the PC games produced during the era, are the peak of gaming visuals. Just detailed enough to allow for high quality aesthetics to shine through, but just primitive enough as to not be too realistic and cost prohibitive for developers. Rusty touched on this a while back, but a game like Doom 3 still looks great to this day, while many new releases (i.e Soyfield) can't even compare to it.

An insidious practice that encourages this is the "Game Pass" style of content delivery on the consoles. A monthly fee grants access to a software library of games which grows the longer the customer has paid for it. This creates an artificial sense that their 'investment' is also increasing in value and that discontinuing their subscription would lose them this banked monetary value.
GamePass is just more convenient renting, just Netflix for games.
Hey guys, let's play some games on an xbox

WTF, someone plays an xbox here?! Get a PS!
Image

Agreed, PS is a better console!

Someone remove that xbox guy!

Fluffing console peasants, you disgust me.

Stop playing games and get a job, worthless bums.

You mean King's Field style graphics. Because I'm sure as **** Tekken 3 or Vagrant Story didn't look like that.

I like the way King's Field characters look. Very minimalist in a good way.

Does the third Avadon game finish the trilogy or did Vogel end it on a cliffhanger?

Why can't we just get one decent Resident Evil game where you play as HUNK or some other Umbrella goon going into an outbreak and collecting documents/important items while "liquidating" survivors you come across. The closest thing is Operation Raccoon City and they fumbled the execution of that pretty hard.

Like most things it was a popular phrase/meme on places like 4chan a decade ago that they've now copied and use completely incorrectly.
I'm just stating the facts.

If you mean can you kill Redbeard for good:

Yes, it's the optional final bossfight. Avadon games are not worth completing IMHO, though.

I haven't, while the combat looks interesting, the setting doesn't appeal to me at all.
