Everything I've read about Embracer is that they've repeatedly, to their own detriment, given developers chances upon chances to actually do their job and have gotten nothing in return but failures.
Publishers like EA exist because developers don't deserve any better than EA. It's a shame gamers have to suffer due to developer incompetence.

Its a criticism that people just mindlessly parrot.Vergil wrote: β January 16th, 2024, 13:41Making the same game over and over again is a common criticism of PB that I've heard so that tracks.
PB's best received games have all be clones of gothic. Its all their titles that are NOT clones of G1/G2 that are poorly received: gothic 3, risen 2, risen 3, ELEX 2.
Actually, I would say PB's problem is that they can't just make the same game and iterate. All they had to do was take ELEX 1 and polish it up and they just couldnt ******* do it.

I found modded Gothic 3 to actually be fun. I've been meaning to do a writeup on what mods to use/what settings for a while. The community did a lot of post-release work, modded Gothic 3 is underappreciated.

Could have married Risen and Gothic's plots since Risen was really a continuation from Gothic 3 anyhow. There's a lot to explore in that universe, but they dumped it.
Often happens when studios get bought or exist for too long. They become complacent and lazy. Only studio I can think of which is still going strong is fromsoft really.rusty_shackleford wrote: β January 18th, 2024, 01:36Everything I've read about Embracer is that they've repeatedly, to their own detriment, given developers chances upon chances to actually do their job and have gotten nothing in return but failures.

The foundations of the game are fine, they're no different than the other Gothic games. The mods completely redid quests, settlements, equipment, NPCs, etc.,

And all From Software does is asset flip Dark Souls ad nauseum. Even Bethesda puts more effort into reskinning Skyrim. You can probably still fine dozens of animations and sound effects from Dark Souls in Elden Ring.Vaako wrote: β January 18th, 2024, 04:21Often happens when studios get bought or exist for too long. I'd be totally fine with more "asset flips" that are just Good Thing: Except More!

That's just Japanese-style game development, not laziness. They like to iterate slowly.KnightoftheWind wrote: β January 18th, 2024, 04:29And all From Software does is asset flip Dark Souls ad nauseum. Even Bethesda puts more effort into reskinning Skyrim. Sure most animations get reused but most studios do that. We still get plenty of new looking monsters with different attacks/abilities and great worlds/lore/music. And Sekiro/Bloodborne played quite diferently than dark souls or eldenring. Also no microtransaction crap and hot waifus. Only reason tho I didnt buy Eldenring was I knew the pvp would be **** in an openworld where you cant invade people like in the catacombs in dark souls3 and you always had to fight 2+ and couldnt even invade single hosts. That probably removed like 500hours gameplay for me. The pool of targets becomes just too small to invade with this many areas and only 2+ people and if you cant even choose the area with lots of trap/ledges to throw people down that sucks too. Was enough in dark souls3 that invasions prioritized 2+ but if those werent there you could annoy single hosts.KnightoftheWind wrote: β January 18th, 2024, 04:29And all From Software does is asset flip Dark Souls ad nauseum. It is laziness. If any western developer pulled what From Software does, they'd be lambasted to hell and back.WhiteShark wrote: β January 18th, 2024, 04:31That's just Japanese-style game development, not laziness. Many Western developers are obsessed with innovation even at the cost of a successful formula. There's nothing wrong with carefully improving on a good, successful game.KnightoftheWind wrote: β January 18th, 2024, 04:46It is laziness. Sadly if they do this you will have screeching dipshits go, "it's a cashgrab!" more often than not.WhiteShark wrote: β January 18th, 2024, 04:54Many Western developers are obsessed with innovation even at the cost of a successful formula. And it's a good thing. Trying to innovate? You should've iterated on your old ideas instead of coming up with something that's new but barely working. Building off of an existing foundation? Rehash, cashgrab!
There should be more dipshits screeching at the devs, to keep them on their toes.

Larian got **** on all the time for BG3 being "DOS3" because it's just yet another iteration, but it's probably the best selling turn-based RPG of all time.

There was some Gothic 3 remake a while back that overhauled the game, It changed where you start and rejigged the map - I vaguely remember what it was other than it was ****. I assume you aren't referring to this but individual mod load outs?rusty_shackleford wrote: β January 18th, 2024, 03:53I found modded Gothic 3 to actually be fun. Individual mods that are presumably meant to work together. It was quite well done.Shillitron wrote: β January 18th, 2024, 07:01There was some Gothic 3 remake a while back that overhauled the game, It changed where you start and rejigged the map - I vaguely remember what it was other than it was ****. I played the game without mods for a dozen hours or so then found out about the mods and it was like going from an unfinished alpha to a full game.

I actually enjoyed ******* around in Gothic 3 original for several hours and I must admit I am a little curious what mods could do for that game.rusty_shackleford wrote: β January 18th, 2024, 07:02Individual mods that are presumably meant to work together. It's not a masterpiece and the combat was jank as hell but it has a charm.

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

I tried some mods, most are really badly translated things that add on to the plot in odd ways. Last time I played I was unaware of the engine fix mod though, the one that finally puts an end to the awful jittering and lag.
Gib mod list, plz.rusty_shackleford wrote: β January 18th, 2024, 07:02Individual mods that are presumably meant to work together.
