Replacing old characters - Baldur's Gate 3

Post by Oldtimer »

First of all, thanks for all your hard work - the mods here for BG3 (which is hoestly the only game I care about) are a godsend - ending the blatant woke agenda in the game is a great step in the right direction. But, for more reasons than that, I haven't played the game since September, so... I have a kind of odd request:

I played the original BG 1 and 2 back in the 90's, and many of the characters from back then hold a place very dear in my heart - I loved them all. However, seeing and hearing about these characters just breaks my heart - it began with Jaheira, and after meeting her I soon gave up the game, since I did not like what they did to her. And then hearing that Minsc, Viconia, Sarevok are still around being treated like second class NPCs is just no. **** no.

So therefore, my request or question is this: Would it be possible to replace these old characters with other, new characters? I don't mind if they talk about the same things, but I want new people, not seeing my old friends dragged through the dirt. That is, replacing their character models and names first of all, secondly remove any references to the old games - the Bhaalspawn saga ended wtih the Bhaalspawn, period.

Would probably take a few months of hard work for modders but not so sure if you can rename npcs without breaking quests/scripts.

I dont even know what the problem with Minsc and Jaheira is except that Jaheira gets talked down to by her annoying adopted daugther because she is never at home. Never used Jaheira or Minsc they come way too late in the story. Viconia could take a facelift for sure even tho she is probably over 600 years already.

Sarevok whats the problem there? The connection with Orin and her mother? Modders could probably remove the dialogue from that but I dont think there is much else to do he is really minor role and its pretty much intended that you kill him anyway. I think he even attacks you if you do what he asks of you and come back.

The problem is that all four of them were quite iconic for the first two games. Let's take Sarevok: he was the main antagonist in BG1, the Big Bad - when he was defeated, it was the same as when Gruber took the fall from Nakatomi Plaza - the end, roll credits (he got a chance to become a companion in BG2 however). But in BG3, he is treated like a minor boss, one that isn't more special than a random rogue boss you have a random encounter with. That is not the way to treat him, so that's why I'm asking for a mod that might keep him as a minor boss with a new name and new looks, but without any references to the previous games.

The three others were as I said iconic companions to the Bhaalspawn, perhaps Minsc most of them, and both Jaheira and Viconia were potential love interests. Now, I don't mind having characters being personalities, but I really mind that the old characters couldn't have been left well alone.

As a sidenote, from a gameplay perspective Jaheira is a bad inclusion anyway, since she turns out to become a second druid after that bear guy. That inclusion alone how badly thought out the game was.

Sarevok fight in BG3 can be pretty tough if he gets going and you dont dps him down instantly with overleveled/overpowered characters. And I dont remember him being really tough in BG1 as a boss. But rewritting Jaheira or Minsc seems a lot of work for two characters you can pretty much ignore. But if it helps you, you could also just imagine they are doppelgangers and just fast forward through Jaheira dialogue during the mainquest in act2 if you visit last light in. Viconia changes should be a little less work tho.
