I have never seen anybody recommend that you skip KOTOR I. When I see people online ask if they can skip straight into KOTOR II people usually say it's not recommended but you can if you really want to at most.rusty_shackleford wrote: β January 13th, 2024, 23:18Just that people are usually recommended to skip the first(better) game.Gastrick wrote: β January 13th, 2024, 23:16Where did you get this, playing a series in the release order doesn't imply the games go best to worst as well.rusty_shackleford wrote: β January 13th, 2024, 23:10
I do agree that kotor is better than kotor 2.

I'm just stating the facts.

i am convinced that the only people who like darklands are the people who didnt play it long enough to realize how shallow, repetitive and boring it is.Dead wrote: β January 13th, 2024, 23:22She got filtered by Darklands. The self-proclaimed "veteran" status is unjustified.
I played KOTOR II before I, and I did so just fine. There's not a lot you miss by not playing the first one when approaching the second, so I don't understand the logic.
That being said both games are interesting. Except maybe for the fact that if (spoiler) Revan wasn't the player, then the "character" itself would be a Mary Sue the size of Elminster.

******** (and other freaks) infest every crevice of the internet because they cannot have a normal life. If we're going by the odds, every woman on the internet is a male pedophile, neutered or not. I'm not convinced Lilura is one however. The (authoritative) writing always seemed womanly to me.
Of course Lilura is a woman. She doesn't stop talking about herself and inserting herself into everything she writes.
Rusty loves Lilura but got his heart broken when he found out that Roguey was over for "tea".

I don't follow, that video is about how EA offered him Wasteland just to spite Fargo after he quit Interplay. Interplay had already leaned into the "Remember Wasteland?" advertising.
I guess you can, but it's like watching Empire Strikes Back without having watched Star Wars first.The_Mask wrote: β January 14th, 2024, 06:59I played KOTOR II before I, and I did so just fine. Why do we have this thread? The Codex already dedicated more than 2,000 posts across nearly 100 pages to this character.

Feeling like he already made a Wasteland game isn't the same as saying it's a sequel to it. At the beginning of the video he mentions that most people on the team didn't play it and that while most of the core team had, "most of the people who played Wasteland had never finished it. They played it, saw how it worked. It was hard to play those games, early DOS games."rusty_shackleford wrote: β January 14th, 2024, 18:03you guys know the video is timestamped right?
That's what I meant with Codex Luminary, by the way. That's not a nobody by any standards.Nemesis wrote: β January 14th, 2024, 18:46The Codex already dedicated more than 2,000 posts across nearly 100 pages to this character.

Darklands is a game that's entirely made of those multiple-choice storybook options Rusty has editorialized against. But worse than that, they're the same few events over and over and over again. Ten times extorted by the travelling bishop, ten times another satanic village or raubritter. The parts of the game that aren't multiple-choice storybooks are really bad rt sit-back-and-watch combat and the empty, copy-pasted overworld. Reading the manual is a better experience than actually playing the game. Darklands does have good aesthetics and it gets points for not being a trash D&D setting, but it's not enough to redeem the game's serious shortcomings.

We should all heed the advice of Lilura "Why isn't everything a tactical isometric RPG?" Goldstein.Tweed wrote: β January 14th, 2024, 23:55As time goes on I'm noticing just how many of our members have absolute **** taste.
The problem is your brain, already dented from genetic mishaps, has been further degraded by needing some sort of easy to follow and linear structure. This makes a game like Darklands complete poison to you because you're approaching it in a perpetual "WHERE DO I GO NEXT" mindset.Emphyrio wrote: β January 15th, 2024, 00:34are you willing to defend the darklands sacred cow, or just reddit-style grumbling and downboating?

I had to consult a guide in a few spots because what you have to do to move forward isn't always intuitive, and as far as I can tell, no online guides for Wasteland existed until the early 00s, so I can understand those mid-90s devs just giving up the first time they get stuck.
Can confirm. I very rarely use guides, got stuck ages ago and never managed to finish Wasteland. If you did it without any external halp, kudos to you.

You were expected to pay the $12.95 for the cluebook. Video game devs were always predatory.Roguey wrote: β January 15th, 2024, 03:13I had to consult a guide in a few spots because what you have to do to move forward isn't always intuitive, and as far as I can tell, no online guides for Wasteland existed until the early 00s, so I can understand those mid-90s devs just giving up the first time they get stuck.

It's a 1992 game, 32 years! For ****'s sake, I am not getting any younger. Of course, nowadays you can tell it has serious shortcomings, but back then, it was one of the big things, rating 90%+ all over the board. It's still enjoyable, and, again, most Steam RPGs don't even offer that, especially not a low fantasy Holy Roman Empire (HRE) setting with unique character development and a healthy dose of realism. That won't impress anyone anymore, but it's still entertaining even today. Back then, that's another story; it was a fantastic RPG, dueling with the likes of Ultima 7 and Wizardry 7βthe reason it's a sacred cow.Emphyrio wrote: β January 15th, 2024, 00:34are you willing to defend the darklands sacred cow, or just reddit-style grumbling and downboating?Tweed wrote: β January 14th, 2024, 23:55As time goes on I'm noticing just how many of our members have absolute **** taste.

Lilura's review suggests that Lilura didn't play the game long enough to realize how repetitive Darklands can be. Lilura has no integrity as a CRPG reviewer.

I see even this thing doesn't tell you that you have to use the card on the table in front of the guy and not the guy himself.Head Crusher - I saw Heod Crusher sitting alone at the back of the bar. I could tell he didn't want an audience, so I met with him alone. I showed him the visa card that the Brakeman had given me and in return he gave me a password to give to the Atchison guard back at the Nomad's Camp. (When we later returned lo the Atchison tent, we got started on a treasure hunt that nearly got Stew killed.)

It's funny how xe reviews the most surface-level "RPG games" released after 2008 and declares "2008: THE EVERLASTING DARK AGES OF COMPUTER GAMES [4.0]". Xe's a tourist posing as a connoisseur.
