Ready or Not is a **** game
@Wretch I basically agree with most of your statement, but I think you make an unsupported leap from 'atomization is bad', which is true, to 'doing anything for fun by yourself is bad', which is questionable. Some things are simply meant to be done alone. I wouldn't read a book while someone else was present and I would go insane if I couldn't spend any of my free time by myself. It's a question of moderation, making sure you're not sacrificing other valuable and necessary parts of your life to a hobby.
Every man I have ever met who fits that criteria has gaming as their primary hobby. They’re usually big into anime too.aweigh wrote: ↑ December 24th, 2023, 04:56nothing to do with "video games".Wretch wrote: ↑ December 24th, 2023, 04:53It’s a very common theme for men now to not even date or have any form of social life and instead stay home to game.

I don’t think spending time alone is bad, I think it’s essential. The phrase “the exception proves the rule” is very true here. Moderation is of course key, It’s why I compared it to junk food or social media.WhiteShark wrote: ↑ December 24th, 2023, 05:02@Wretch I basically agree with most of your statement, but I think you make an unsupported leap from 'atomization is bad', which is true, to 'doing anything for fun by yourself is bad', which is questionable. The guy who eats a few twinkies a week and is healthy doesn’t need to hear junk food is bad. But that doesn’t change that junk food is bad. Similarly the Grandma who uses social media to keep tabs on her kids and grandkids and get baby pictures from them manages to not be harmed by social media but most others fall into the trap.
There is a reason why gaming communities have such high degrees of coomers, ********, and other mentally ill types.

Companies do not want to rock the boat of culture, as doing so limits the customer base. Ready or Not inadvertently placed right-wing symbols—as defined classically as opposed to any semblance to institutions like the Republican Party—in their game. Worse yet, they were assumed to have used a slur degrading Africans, which is the 21st century's form of blasphemy. Silence would be viewed as consent and make their game political poison for the masses, who want to avoid even the insinuation of racism lest they be burned at the stake. The company was left with no other option except to explain that they had no intention to place right-wing signals in their game and to prove their authenticity by showing how politically correct they have been in the past. What we are witnessing is simply Havel's Grocer, who, upon hearing accusations that he despises Comrade Stalin, hangs a big poster of him in the front window of the shop. If the right were to launch a boycott of every retailer who did such a thing, then we would find ourselves with nary a store to patronize and no further to our goals than we were the day prior.Consul wrote: ↑ December 22nd, 2023, 09:35Was about to buy the game after reading that Kotaku article, but then I saw the statement posted by the studio on twitter:
When will developers learn not to appease these people? None of those who are even remotely interested in this game care about such public assurances of being faithful to the woke religion. The best way to go about such controversies is to simply ignore them, now they've lost a buyer in me and I'm probably not the only one. They had such a great advertisement done by Kotaku and they blew it. Shameful to see.
Every game (or any product in general) I've seen that faces a minor controversy over something "right wing" and stands its ground gets a huge boost of popularity. Apologizing is never beneficial, never wins people over, and only alienates the people who enjoyed the "controversial" thing in the first place.AmericanMonarchist wrote: ↑ January 4th, 2024, 21:42Companies do not want to rock the boat of culture, as doing so limits the customer base. By posting that woke apology they explicitly chose a side and alienated a portion of people who might have been interested in their product. Staying silent would not have made things worse for them, because most people don't care either way what some leftist online oulet has to say and I would wager that the type of people who would be interested in this sort of game skew more right than left. The witch hunt after them was limited to a few places that barely anyone even reads. You might have a point if big media companies like CNN were after them, but even then about half of the Western population is desensitized to that type of pearl clutching and moral panic at this point.AmericanMonarchist wrote: ↑ January 4th, 2024, 21:42Companies do not want to rock the boat of culture, as doing so limits the customer base. I would agree with you if they added pronouns or non-binary nonsense. Their apology "merely" disavowed racism. Disavowing racism is part and parcel of doing business in Wiemerica. I would like if they didn't, but the Overton Window already moved past that post.Consul wrote: ↑ January 5th, 2024, 19:20By posting that woke apology they explicitly chose a side and alienated a portion of people who might have been interested in their product. It's still overtly 'conservative' in its nature and the disavowal is only known if you go digging for it.
