Overview
NPC Portrait AddOn for @AlbertHeinous's Whiter version of BBA. I chose to use Albert's version for maximum coverage.

Using @SniperChris's original version or @orinEsque's minimalist version will result in mismatches between portraits and NPC models as those versions do not change all the NPCs that the whiter version by Albert does.



To Do
I am only covering Acts 1 and 2 for now as there are far fewer NPCs to cover. I will start working on Act 3 at a later date, once all of the NPCs in Acts 1 and 2 have had new portraits made for them.

If you have BBA installed alongside this mod and you see any NPCs in Acts 1 or 2 with mismatching models and portraits, please let me know by commenting below and detailing where the said NPC can be found in-game.

Zarys though, I already replaced her Potrait so I'm not sure what is causing a problem on your end.

Uploaded a new version that should fix Olly and Bellar. Not sure what is wrong with Zarys as her portrait is being replaced fine on my end.

Playing through Act 1 again so I'll let you know if I run into any portraits that were missed. Also thanks for not touching Duke Ravengard's portrait, I'm running NoAlphabets and Better Aesthetics for my girlfriend's playthrough but left Wyll and his father alone.

Yo, hold up... Did you have to make all these portraits manually dude?? Like opening the characters in inspect and cropping the black background and all that?

I was thinking hey I'm in act 3 I'll help out Ty6 and use the Ninja Ripper trick Luckmann did for the Wyll portrait, but I just realized that won't work for non-companions. :?

But I could help you out with making them! I've been able to spot them pretty easily since I'm using Better Target Info

Yeah you have to open the npcs model via examine, screenshot it and take it to gimp or photoshop to remove the black background and replace it with an appropriate one.

Did you want to help make the potraits themselves or just hunt for npcs?

If you could just make a list of npcs names and where I can find them as you play I would really appreciate it, 😁

It seems really weird to me that portraits don't just always automatically generate and show the current model of the character, and that each seems to be made manually.
But I'm not a programmer, so who knows why Larian did it that way or if they had to do it this specific way.

I think I could help you make them! I could speedrun a playthrough and try to look for them and just let you know where they are.

I guess to start out I found a dead fisherman with a black portrait around the crash site area.

Also I'll try using Recruit any NPC - Transform NPC Into Playable Character and Emotes - Poses and Toggle Walk to get em looking nicely and for when we have to deal with **** like this

Aelar is a High-Elf? They couldn't even get his subrace right. Kind of shows they really did just slap a lot of the game together without much care.

Had a closer look at that lsf file. Removing that icon file doesn't actually generate a new portrait, instead it defaults to its TemplateName's predone icon. I traced the templates to another template then another until no more portraits were there and I get this:

If you remove templates, Aelar will be unclickable.

Yep. Even your own portrait only refreshes when you level up.

It's not working after patch 7. But at least, the deblacker one works fine with the BG3MM
